Camp Robbers

Yeah, I think he was old and sick – but appropriate to this thread, because he was stealing cherries.

I don't think birds care much for human land deeds. :D

Never had anything stolen, but we've only left gear at car camp sites where others are around to keep an eye. So far, we've been lucky.

hmm- in Montana we call the Grey Jay "camp robber", (we have Stellar's too)

great pic of your daughter! :)

one of my friends had his entire camp stolen (tent & contents)- it was set up on private land (near Forest Service) to use for work, figuring it would be safe there- not :(

pretty darn low messing with someone's camp- I'd love to catch someone red handed

Yep, camping at a lake. Went to sleep in a tent, tackle box and gear outside, woke up to no tackle box and no gear. I was 16 at the time and remember walking around the entire camp ground looking for the people who stole it. Once people heard what I was looking for they offered me spare tackle/equipment to use which was awesome, still nice people out there. But lesson learned.

The bad thing is I had borrowed my fathers tackle box, it had 30 years of stuff in it. :(

Missouri is full of scumbags. Anytime you leave anything unattended , theres a chance it will get stolen .I hate it.

This summer in my hometowm, some guy with his very expensive bicycle was traveling across the country. He stopped at a local park and slept on a bench.when he awoke in the morning all of his stuff was gone. It sucks.

Missouri should be nicknamed the Scumbag state.

Unfortunately there are thieves everywhere! I carry a pistol 24/7 in the city and country. Also I always carry a scrap of paper with a pen or such. That way I can jot down a license plate number on any suspicious motor vehicle. May come in handy later.

On a December climbing trip to Joshua Tree, I came back to camp to find my North Face Cat's Meow sleeping bag missing (along with some other stuff). It was late in the day and I had just enough time to hitch a ride into town for a replacement. The only thing available was a Coleman summer type bag (the kind your daughter would use at a slumber party) that was about a foot too short. I had a week left of my trip and cursed that thieving bastard every night!

Was hiking in the Moose River recreational area a bunch of years back, went for a day hike after packing in the previous afternoon up to Brooktrout Lake. Ran into some through-hikers on the way back to our camp, talked for a few and they went on their way. Got back to the lean-to and noticed a couple cans of Heineken tossed behind the privie - taken from the depths of my backpack! Thank goodness they weren't total scoundrels, and left me with a handful along with a flask of Scotch. I was packin a pistol too, for all the good it did me in this situation. Its pretty uncommon to have any gear pilfered that far off the beaten track, its just more weight to carry out. Food and booze however, are always at risk.

All the more reason to go armed, and have a shovel. Bury the bastards deep in an out of the way spot. Just my no doubt brutal $0.02.

I had to read that 2 times... I kept seeing "Camp Roberts"... I was stationed there a couple of times back when I was in the Army.

Sucks to hear about somebody taking gear from your camp site.

That pic made my day.:thumbup::thumbup:

I would definitely have that hanging on the wall.

16 bucks to have it blown up to 16x20, professional quality textured print by Kodak Picture Gallery. I've done that with 6-7 of my better pictures now-there are some cool old barnwood cedar frames on Amazon for 50 bucks, too....

As a child my family and I were staying in a campground in southern California. We went into town and didn't come back until dark, only to find that thieves had taken literally everything: Coleman stove, lantern, ice chest w/food, 6 sleeping bags, tent, our clothing, even took our clothespins off of the clothes line we had set up. This was almost 40 years ago.

Another time I had gear taken from my camp in California's Ventanna Wilderness while on a pack in hunt. Someone came into my camp while I was away and stole items out of my pack. I was a good 15 miles in from the nearest trail head......

I hate thieves!

congrats to your daughter on her kill !!! i like her hoodie that bulldog looks the same as my old high school same green color too. thank goodness it was just an axe and not a firearm of knife !!

Human camp robbers should be treated like horse thieves. These burglaries break a fundatmental rule in the outdoors.

My brother had an encounter with truck robbers last hunting season which led to him having to repair the fiber glass cover on his truck. He spotted them as he topped a little rise about 200 meters from his truck. Those boys are really lucky he was carrying a break-down 30-30 and not the 7400. Then again so is he...and so was the truck.

Sorry about your axe.
Only similar experience I had was when I was 14. I was camping with a couple of friends by the shoreline after night fishing. At around 7am, someone slashed out tent while we were sleeping in it and ran off. By the time we got out of our bags, they were gone.

Never had that problem in Texas. I'm sure it has happened, though. Sorry about your Axe, but I'm glad you came back before they could steal anything else. Congratulations to your daughter on her first grouse.

Nice pictures Bruce too bad your fine time was marred by a wholes
I have never locked my trapping camps as they are out there and things do happen' have had a few people use them when things in the bush have gone wrong.
Always something goes missing few times it was all my dinnerware-which can be had for a few bucks at a yardsale Mostly its the axes and splitting mauls. So much so that when I go to friends houses if they have ones with broken handles I buy them and rehandle.
Last trip out the hatchet, cresent wrench and fuel bottles were gone
Gets tiresome and I should probably lock it up
I have spares hid around the place wrapped up and hid
Havent had anything stole while hunting or fishing yet
Thanks
Dan'l
