Looking to add a camp/backpacking saw to my list of must haves and looking for some input from the guys in the know (WSS).

Forget camp saws you should really try one of these

Just kidding (I know your a denizen of the Busse forum) :D

I have the Silky Super Accel 210 and it rocks, not the lightest out there (9 ounces) but the 8.25 inch blade cuts like the dickens.

My vote also is for Silky Saws. They really are a step above other saws I have used.

I have been known to carry a swede saw. Now most of the time I take a pocket chainsaw and turn it into a bowsaw in the field.

Hey, Garrett, I have a question if you don't mind. What's the depth on that saw between the blade and the crossbar (how thick of a log will it cut)?

Thanks in advance.

I wanna say a good 6" or so. In using it, I'd say 6" log would be about where it would work well. You could do bigger but you won't get as much back and forth room. But remember, you could go in 6" and flip the log over and go another 6". I'd guess that a 9" thick log would be doable even. As I said though, you run out of back and forth room eventually the bigger you go. I used to carry a huge non-folding bow saw and that worked slightly better but for the size, weight and such this works great. The blade locks up super tight too. You don't get much of that blade twisting/bending like you get with some saws.

Thanks, Garrett. I really like the look of that thing. I'm thinking my Silky for small stuff and one of those for the larger things, especially if I'm going to be in camp for awhile.

I really like these aluminum take-down bow saws... the only photo I have of one isn't very good; it's on my right:

The whole thing comes apart and packs inside the longest tube. It cuts like a laser and carries a spare blade. You can also get a bone blade for quartering game.
