Camp Site pictures...

And stuartyr, what tent/shelter is this that you have pictured?

Just a cheap own brand tipi from millets (chain of outdoor stores) in the uk, they discontinued them last year and sold them off for, if I remember rightly, about 40 quid.

What tarps are you guys' running? I want to get into tarp camping so bad. Any suggestions on a modestly priced tarp that isn't crap?

Thanks for the info on your tipi, stuartyr! HD, how about the scoop on yours?

m-p, the blue tarp in my pics is just a coated ripstop nylon tarp I found a few years ago in an REI sale bin. It is similar to this one at Campmor: http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/s...6&storeId=226&catalogId=40000000226&langId=-1.

These days I use an MSR Trekker's Tarp which looks like a tent when rigged on the ground. One side opens completely a la lean-to style.

Kelty Noah isn't bad but but IMO if you get into a big rain you are screwed. The water will run under it if you get a big gullywasher and if it is raining hard enough even pitched really low some rain will blow under.

I usually only take a tarp if #1 it's not supposed to rain or #2 it is supposed to rain really hard and I'm with a group and we might need a communal area to socialize and cook.

Now you could bring a bivy or extensive ground cloth to get around the water running under your tarp, but once you've packed along those things, weight wise I have found might as well bring a tent.:o

This was earlier this year when we had my sister-in-law over to visit, it was the first time she had gone camping...EVER !!!!

Mate, thats just a plain old chicken. We picked up a couple before the walk in. The one in the pic was spit roasted and extreemly tasty the other was cooked in a ground oven (hungi, lovo whatever you want to call it) as seen in the first pic.

oh alright, well you camp site looks good and the chicken looks good, even better with a hell razor cutting it.

Quit posting pictures of Nessmuks! I didn't like them at first, but now every time I see a picture of a Nessie, I want one even more.

Okay, here are a few:

Elk Base Camp - I also have a cot set up in the back of my truck for impromptu solo car camping.

Bivy Camp - This is a SilShelter from Integral Designs. I couple it with a Tyvek tarp.
