Camper The Traveling Muk (aka: Pass The Muk)

Dang, sorry to hear you've been feeling poorly.

Nice photography though. What kind of tree is that?

Merry Christmas to all who've hosted, are hosting, and those that are watching!
And Merry Christmas to you and yours! From our outfit to yours:

Merry Christmas all. Don’t worry, it’s still here. It’s been a pain trying to shake this crud and get outdoors to do something but it’s behind me now. Hopefully this will be the lamest adventure the Muk experiences but I’ll use it today cutting some stuff for Christmas dinner.

My apologies as I forgot to reply. This years tree is a Nordmann fir. My daughter has worked at a Christmas tree farm on the weekends around the holidays for 7 or 8 years so we always go pick one out.

Back to the Muk, I got it to do a little work making my world famous breakfast burritos that I do every Christmas morning. Then it helped with potato’s for the Elk roast.

Very nice, thanks for sharing. Trees are particularly interesting to me. Burritos are mildly interesting, and elk roast is of great interest lol!

New Year’s Eve, sitting around the campfire in the backyard. Hoping it’s going to be a peaceful and quiet transition into the new year. I tossed the Muk on my belt this afternoon while I enjoy some rain free weather….for nowIMG_2938.jpeg

Took a drive to see what water levels looked like on a couple lakes I fish. They are the second and third lakes created by dams on the Cowlitz river that eventually flows into the Columbia. Water was surprisingly clear considering the rain we’ve been having and pleasantly higher than expected. I’m hoping the levels stay up this spring to make access easier. Took the Muk and a Buck with me.

I grabbed some chicken strips and fries from the Huff-n-Puff I figured to eat at a picnic table on another lake. When I got there it was dumping so I stayed in the truck. The Muk didn’t want to get out either…☔

I love a good fire. The best steak I ever et was cooked by me, over fire. I used apple wood sticks, burned them down to coals and cooked on castiron grate. I've never been able to reproduce it, but it was the perfect blend of well done, juicy, and crispy on the edges.

Looks like a good little fishing spot. I've not had much luck lately. I think the last I've caught was was in late November, and it was on a topwater no less.

Well, Camper is heading back to me. I appreciate everyone's interest thus far, and if anyone has interest in hosting, I'll start a new list and we'll keep going. I have a couple of adventures to take him on myself.

Well, I got Muk back, and I ended up taking a trip to California for a month but not taking Camper, and been busy since I have returned.

I received him back in nice shape, and with a surprise, a new old stock Old Timer 34OT. Quite a surprise.

Hey all, sorry for the delay, had a couple busy weekends and only just made it out to the woods this afternoon! My 4 year old son, Joe, was tagging along with me today. We had a blast hanging out with Camper and Joe learned some saw safety skills and started learning the steps to build a fire

First we had to cut up some cantaloupe for a snack in the woods. (Joe's been learning knife safety as well)

Camper's flat grind worked wonderfully for this task. I also really liked the flattened sides on the handle, that seems like a really sensible modification. The scalloped spine is comfortable for food prep as well. I did find myself wishing the blade were a bit longer.

We got to the woods and set up our hammock

Next we prepped some seasoned deadfall (cherry?) and started gathering kindling

I had the CPK FK2 along with me as well, the FK2 is a favorite of mine and I was curious to see how she and Camper got along

Camper made fine curls with ease

I found that I was able to obtain finer curls with Camper than with the FK2, but my hand started to fatigue sooner and then my technique started to break down toward the end

Joe did a great job of photographing the firefighting process! My wife has him trained to do laundry too 😆

Many thanks to John JM2 JM2 for generously allowing me to participate in "Pass the Muk"! I had a good time with this blade and was similarly impressed with it as I have been with other LT Wrights I've owned in the past. Excellent fit and finish, super sharp spine for use with the "metal match" and great ergonomics. I thought the modifications made it a more usable blade and I really enjoyed using it. I plan to touch up the edge and get it sent back to JM2 JM2 unless anyone else has joined in. Thanks again!

- Steve
