I'm going camping next week to a state park and was wondering if it is legal to bring my bk7 along? It's jersey so who knows??? Thanks for any info you may have on this subject

From what I have read, as long as you can show that the knife has a particular purpose, such as processing wood around the campsite, you will be fine. I bring my BK4 camping regularly.

If you are hiking with it, it may draw some looks, and That may be questioned, so put it vertical in your pack if you carry one. Plus, personally the 7 would be heavy for my hiking preferences, bring a mora and another smaller fixed blade along with a sak or folding saw.

Where in NJ are you headed, I might be able to give you some insight into the area you're heading.

I agree with NJBill, bring a smaller knife to bring on the trails. That's what I've done when camping/hiking in NJ.

My last nj excursion was canoeing in the Pine Barons - amazing trip. JUst brought a spyderco enuff.

NJ knife laws are surprisingly not "that" strict, especially when you consider their gun laws, and while camping especially, (not walking along the boardwalk), you should definitely be fine.

Manifestly appropriate for camping would almost require a BK-9 and/or Magnum Camp BK-5.:D

You should be find . I usually take my fix blade to the lake up at Wawayanda and high point . I hike and fish with my GSO or BR Aurora On my side . I have walked by some rangers and they never said a word . If you go for a hike in the woods of NJ you should always be prepared and look out specially up North lots of bears and now we have coyotes .

I run around hiking and campgrounds with a mora on me all the time. Hope, pine Barrens, Delaware water gap. No one bats an eyelash.

I lived in NJ most of my life. I just cannot imagine how you can go camping without a knife. Seems to me a portion of the camping title is having a knife

I feel the same just wanted to make sure park ranger didn't haul me off for pulling out a bk7:eek: Thanks for the great info we are going to Swartswood State Park I plan on using the bk 17 for hiking and the 7 for camp chores

If you see any yuppies pull up in a brand new range rover or spot them walking around the woods with designer shoes and a shitzu in their couture handbag.. Just tuck it away until they are out of sight.. Other than that you should be OK. If you're from nj you'll know that I'm sadly serious about that scenario.. Lol

A little off topic but can you guys who camp in NJ recommend some camp grounds/locations? Never been camping in NJ even though I live here though looking to change that this summer.

This is very true, I always pocket carry fixed blades if I'm carrying one in nj.

+ 1. Keep Shih Tzus away from me, and stay away from Princeton and surrounding areas. Hipster central. I live there, and I can confirm the sheer number of yuppies/hipsters is staggering.

155440: NJ has some really nice state parks (a list of which can be found here.) Allaire is my favorite, I can also be found in Washington Crossing on weekends.

Stay out of the pine barrens during the summer. The chiggers are brutal and can get in every last bodily nook and cranny.

You should ask over in the Outdoors sub-forum area. There are at least a few people over there who have posted NJ hike reports in the recent past. Considering that NJ is the most densely overpopulated state in the entire country, I was surprised to see some of the scenic outdoor places they've posted. Makes me want to go for a New Jersey hike.

Worthington State forest sites 1 to 3 are awesome right on the Delaware River and you can launch a kayak from there. Site 1 is my favorite.

Some great spots (way) up north, but even when I lived there, if I wanted to go camping I'd travel into PA...

We went camping at Rickets Glenn (in PA) a couple weeks ago - absolutely amazing... Beautiful waterfalls. Only bummer is that the primary lake near the camp grounds in drained for the summer. There's another lake nearby though.
