What do you guys use for soap when camping?

If you use a bar, how do you keep it from sliming everything else in your bag?

A biodegradable bar soap

A Ziplock sandwich bag keeps it from spreading where it shouldn't.

Kind regards
Mick

I never use scented products (soap, shampoo). It must be plain-jane stuff for me.

I keep some dish soap in a small 1 oz nalgene container. It's thick enough where I can just dip a finger or two into it to get enough soap to wash cups and dishes. I have yet to go out for so long that I need to use soap to wash myself up.

I should really get some biodegradable soap one day. I just keep on forgetting.

I actually make my own soap from scratch. That way i have control over everything that goes into it, and can decide if i want it to be scented or not.

Whiskey, I just get drunk enough to spill it all over myself by accident. Disinfects anything!
I started using a packaged product that is made for just that. It is a cloth that has a soap in it that does a great job. I don't have it anymore as I ran out, and I cannot remember the name. Does anyone know what product that is? I think there was 10 in a pack maybe?

Ive been using some product called camp suds for years. Says its 100% biodegradable.

I've used Dr. Bronners, Campsuds and the stuff that Coughlans used to make. They all work great and a little goes a long way.

+ 1

It's nice to have a biodegradable, relatively-non-scented product that can clean your dishes, your knife, your body, and your hair.

All the best,

- Mike

I carried some Dr. Bronner's when I thru-hiked the AT, but got rid of it because it was just too much of a hassle to use away from streams/lakes. When I did town stops, the hotels and hostels had the soap I needed.

Since then I have not carried or needed soap in the backcountry.

What is this soap thing you speak of?

I revel in my natural musk and enjoy becoming one with nature.:D

I wonder why folks don't want to share a tent with me?:(

Really I use a bit of liquid soap in a small plastic container. It can be used double duty, but more often I use hand sanitizer. Quick and does the job pretty well.

I have always used camp suds, after this thread I am going to have to try Dr. Bronners.

I, too, like Dr. Bronner's soap when I'm out and about.

I haven't found a bar soap that makes a good toothpaste/mouthwash.
