Campus EDC blade

I use Spyderco Dragonfly as my campus EDC. Also used Case Stockman. I don't usually take out my knife though. I just like to have a knife with me. If I would take out my knife in public, I would prefer one with black coating. I think people feel that black knives are less dangerous..

Spyderco Delica, Kershaw Cryo or Leek. I see a huge amount of Leeks at the college I work at, from students to staff.

I'd carry any knife that was legal. I went the peanut route at first when I went back, but kept seeing guys and not a few of the ladies with all kinds of knives clipped in their pockets. I've been carrying a Buck 500 in a belt sheath all semester, no one has said a word.

peanut was a good choice.

There was a thread on another forum on sub-2" knives which are the legal blade length limit in GA universities. You obviously like the locking folders, so I would say Spyderco Delica or similar which I think is an excellent knife to EDC. But I would carry a Vic SAK personally for the other tools which I find to be very useful on a day to day basis. I would not be carrying a multi-tool but I probably would have one in my dorm room assuming I didn't have a full tool box there.

I don't see what's wrong with having a safer, more convenient to use tool.

I have heard many people allege that a locking blade is safer, but that has not been my experience. In the forty years I used a slip joint knife, I never had an injury as a result of the knife inadvertently closing. In the 5 years I have used framelock knives, I have cut myself several times trying to close it one handed. All of them were minor and probably a result of being left handed. I think a locking blade is probably safer if you are doing something with your knife that you probably shouldn't be doing with any knife.

I carried a Spyderco Cricket for the majority of my time at University. I was constantly amazed at how well it handled tasks that I would of thought it too small for.

So many options. For campus life you need something with piercing power for ease to shotgun beer cans that should be first. One handed opening is also important, I can't imagine being without it now. My favorite has still got to be a blur great edc

Just bought a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 for my grandson who is a senior in college in Pa. His school conforms to the "ordinary" pocket-knife definition. My favorite of all times is a PM2. I think he will agree.

I'll tell you, my most frequently used knife in college was, by far, my sak spartan. Bottle opener, corkscrew, and small blade were what I used most, bar freakin none. Plus it's cheap, non threatening, and really well built.

Spyderco Sage if you can. My college has a blade length limit so I was forced to switch out my Sage for the carbon fiber Chaparral. 2.5" limit is so stingy but I'm taking any risks.

I edc my full size Griptilian to college. The Kershaw Shuffle has a bottle opener on it so it kind of feels like it was made with College kids in mind :P

I think people feel that black knives are less dangerous..

Honest question: What makes you think that? Is there any empirical evidence to support that premise?

I would think the exact opposite would be the case; that most non-knife people would see a black blade as more sinister and/or tactical.
