Campus EDC blade

I have heard many people allege that a locking blade is safer, but that has not been my experience. In the forty years I used a slip joint knife, I never had an injury as a result of the knife inadvertently closing. In the 5 years I have used framelock knives, I have cut myself several times trying to close it one handed. All of them were minor and probably a result of being left handed. I think a locking blade is probably safer if you are doing something with your knife that you probably shouldn't be doing with any knife.

I am left handed, it is easier and safer to close a right handed liner or framelock left handed. Don't blame the inanimate object for your clumsiness.

On campus I have no problem carrying just regular folders. Carry an Endura 4 with the wave quite often and not a big deal. You might get a few looks but honestly as much as you want to think so, people do not pay attention to you or other people in general.

That makes absolutely no sense. If your argument had any merit at all, designers would have put the lock on the other side to make knives easier and safer to to close for righties. Why would you say something so ridiculous just to insult me?

Because it's easier to disengage that way one handed. Liner locks and frame locks aren't all that dangerous to close so they probably wouldn't put the lockbar on the other side just to make it slightly safer. Victorinox does this though (eg: One Handed Trekker) and right handed people hate it.

sweeping the lock to the outside while removing thumb from the path of blade, vs pushing lock across with thumb totally in path of blade? One sound safer than the other? Of course I don't get cut closing a knife with either hand. Slipjoints are easier to get cut while closing due to the snappy springs. You could always close your locking folder with two hands if it gives you trouble.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I found that the new orange Spyderco Dragonfly 2 was almost perfect for me. Plus its a sprint run so its more special.

Good choice. Hope you like it as much as I do. In the future, you should also consider getting the ZDP-189 version (and possibly swapping blades between the two).

I carry a mini-grip as my campus EDC everyday, and a SAK Executive (I think that's the small black one) on my keys. Small and nothing high end, but gets the job done. And if I happen to lose it, I won't lose too much sleep over it.

EDC at home or on the road is a different story.....

i wouldn't take anything like that to a party though. have a few drinks, next thing you know the cops are raiding the place and patting everyone down looking for anything.
