a special thanks once again to 42 for providing the best definition of a fixed-blade knife I've ever seen. :)

I provided essentially the same definition on page 1 of this thread, but I didn't use the phrase "spatial relationship" so I guess it's not as good.

All that revolving awesome sauce can be yours for a mere $21.99.

Good lord. How do you keep from tearing your hand up with that thing? No wonder DAVE_M referred to it as the spinning blades of doom. Still, it's not the weirdest thing I've ever seen. That award goes to a naked 6" fixed-blade knife with a prybar at the end of the handle, sheath not included. (It reminds me of something Cougar Allen likes to say . . . "safety third"! ;) ) If that knife taught me one thing, it's to expect the unexpected.

Pics because forum rules say so. ;)

This is one revolving knife I'd be happy to use:

Absolutely not and to be honest it's an incredibly dumb debate. Just my honest opinion. Debating that question seems like a substantial waste of time to me considering there is one right answer and opinion doesn't come into play.

Fixed blade has a definition as does a folder. One type can't correlate to the other, it's physically impossible based on their definitions. The only way around this is with permanent modifications to the knife. For example, take a fixed blade and cutting the blade portion off and then using that to make a custom folder. But I don't think that is what you're getting at. Again I'm sorry to say it's an incredibly dumb debate to have.

While I agree, I fully understand that without discussion, someone will eventually ask the same questions.

It wasn't very long ago that people sincerely believed the Earth was flat.

Yep. I saw that picture and realized it was absolutely perfect for this poll. A yawning turtle with its eyes half-closed represents the turtle lovers to a T, doesn't it? :D

Do turtles actually yawn?! That could be the basis for a multi-million dollar Federal Grant.....whoops getting off topic. ;)

I suppose while we are on the subject, can a knife with a lock be a slipjoint?

Definitely.

Slipjoint with a brass linerlock that does indeed lock the blade open. I've never done any crazy Cold Steel tests on it though haha. Schrade also made the 125 OT with a liner lock, and there have been other examples. The Vic Trekker included.
But I do realize your post was tongue-in-cheek; just pointing it out since no one else had. :p I like the taste of turtles

... But I like saving turtles out of the road :encouragement:
I caught my snapping turtles/future lunch or supper as they crossed the road. Had a gaff in the back of my puckup just for that.
Turtle soup, stew, and fried turtle is much yummy.

Maybe if they're big enough but I do agree with a side dish of frog legs

Well I'd say we've ridden this horse about as far as he'll go. Here's how we ended up.

171 people cast votes. Of those, 103 voted on the question. 88 of the 103 (or greater than 4 out of 5) said that a knife cannot be both a REAL folder and a REAL fixed-blade. 14 of the 103 (or less than 1 out of 5), said it can. And one voter couldn't make up their mind.

Before I close this thread, I want to acknowledge the turtle lovers. I assume most of you voted for turtles because you felt the question was too absurd to answer. And you may be right. But if you look around, you'll see that there are some folks who are willing to sue each other over it. Apparently there's nothing absurd about it for them.

See you on the other side. :)
