Hey guys, I was doing some carving today and cut my finger.
It nicked the bone and a small shaving came off the bone in my finger, its stopped bleeding and still hurts but it is more of an ache than anything.
should i be worried? or does it really matter

Bones heal. The rate of turnover of bone material is actually quite astonishing.

i assume if you cut to the bone you would of got stitches?

nope
heres some pics

Man, that looks painful! I have no advice other than please be careful with the sharp things!

That's a pretty sizeable chunk of bone from a phalange (finger bone). If it were me & even if I still had all movement, I'd more than likely still have it checked out by a medical professional. That piece of bone is a structural component of the whole finger and missing that piece may have some kind of impact on the operation of the whole finger either short or long term.

That's just what I'd do if it were me.

When I read the original post I assumed you nicked out a tiny sliver of bone. Then I saw the picture!!! Geesh! That's gonna be something to show your grandkids! :)

(I'd see a doctor.)

I'll stitch it up for you....it'll cost you $1300:D

is that the bone shaving next to the penny??

i'd be more concerned about infection than anything else cutting into the bone like that

+1.

Although I must say I was shocked when I saw the second picture and thought it was a picture of your leg. I know you said finger but it looked like a leg.

Now thats a cut ! I agree, you should get that looked at.
Ok, so i'll be the one to ask....what kind of knife did the bone carving ???

The biggest danger from bone being cut is infection. Chances are you'd be fine, but better safe than sorry & you're no longer able to count to 10.

If you got that cut deep enough to reach the bone marrow, there's a BIG risk of osteomyelitis (bone infection), and that's VERY serious - sometimes even life-threatening serious. Go see a doctor and take the bone fragment.

+1! That's the first thing that came to mind.
