Can cutting your bone cause permenant damage

diffenitely see a doctor, and as a question, would you treat a bone fragment the same as a tooth and put it in milk till the doc figures out what too do??

I'd worry about infection, bone infections can serious. Take the bone (and your finger) to a doctor to get it checked out.

Dude, you cant make this stuff up!... take some of that free money and go to the doc!

Dude. That chunk of bone is HUGE considering it came from a cut of that size on a finger. You need to see a medical professional.

That's really bad news. You need to be on antibiotics as of right now. You've directly introduced some really ugly bacteria into your bone, deep tissues, very likely tendon sheaths. You have a phenomenally high risk of infection, and once it starts, it will move through all those compartments. We're talking lose-your-hand level of bad. If you've got any kind of reason to have a weakened immune system (e.g., diabetes, steroids) you're in even worse shape.

You may be thinking you're healthy and your immune systme will protect you, but it's your immune system that's going to eat up your hand if an infection takes hold.

Sure, doctors suck. But this is one time you really should go talk to one. Like right now.

Take the bone fragment to give the doc an idea of what happened...but they're not going to be putting it back.

If you end up with osteomyelitis, it's going to cost you a lot more than $1,300. And you'll have a permanently damaged hand.

I do have to get one of those knives, though.

just got back from the doctor, he gave me some antibiotics and stitches siad i was lucky it didnt go to the marrow and i should be fine.

I smashed a 1/2" hole in my forehead a couple years back, apart from the Ti plate in there I'm totally fine. Well, I was untill I KO'd myself last week and had a seizure, but that's another story.

I wish you a quick recovery! Try not to f..k ,um..., er, uh... I mean, uh... MESS, with your skeleton. Take ALL of the antibiotics and good luck.

What was it you were doing??? I've cut myself... many times. A friend of mine even nicked the bone in one of his fingers with a kitchen knife, but I've never seen someone take out a chunk of bone with a knife.Whatever you were doing, don't ever do it again.

That is not a sliver, that is a chunk. Post pics of the stitched finger so we know you're not bs'ing us about gong to the doc.

You made the right call going to the doc. People have lost parts of their body do to wounds like that.

As soon as I saw this thread, I thought to myself I'd bet five bucks it was a BRKT that did the damage.

Good point. I think we should discuss how the injury took place... How in the HELL did you do this?!
