From the other recent thread about credit (and debit) cards, I've noticed that Canadian debit cards are different from American debit cards. The latter are basically Visa/Mastercard/what-have-you cards which debit money directly from a bank account. So it's like a real credit card but without the credit aspect.
Canadian debit cards seem more like ATM cards, but with point-of-sale debit purchase capabilities not tied to a real credit card number like Visa/Mastercard/etc. Examples are Mondex, MAC, PLUS, or STAR debit payments. These tend to be accepted in very limited locations, and since it's a hassle to figure out the fees for each type of payment, most people just stick with credit card payments. I would be very surprised to see an online vendor supporting these kinds of payments.
