"Can I use your knife?"

"What do you need done?" which turns into "Here, just let me do it for you."

Bought one of the cheap Cold Steel khukris offered at most local retailers and took it camping, let a buddy use it and he was carving/chopping at wood towards the ground, carelessly hitting rocks (and the ground for that matter) in the process. Won't happen again, even with folders.

Only to my wife, adult kids, and best friend of 35 yrs.

My wife knows all too well how much they cost and wouldn't abuse them, the kids understand how much I value them even if they don't quite "get it", and my friend would be the recipient of a newly resharpened / fixed knife if he was careless. Added value that I could mock him relentlessly afterwards...

All others, no.

O

I am all for letting someone use my knives, gets them to try a nice knife without having to shell out any money.

I always carry a RR peanut for just this reason. When they are finished with it I tell them to keep it. I have given away lots of knives just this way.

Every holliday when we open presents we need my knife, every year my wife's aunt makes some "comment" about it, like it's a bazooka or something. Annoying.

Most times I just cut whatever the person asking needs, unless it's someone I trust not to do something stupid with it.

Depends on who it is and what they want cut. No matter who it is I always ask what they need cut and most the time I just do it myself.

It's been my expierence the people who don't carry knives don't know how to use knives . Had a few come back to me with broken tips or chipped edges.

Also had 2 or 3 use a knife and cut themselves . It's really best just to cut what needs to be cut yourself .
