Can I use your knife?

I don't think the problem is flicking per se on an occasional basis, but there are or used to be many that would sit around flicking their knives open over and over for whatever reason. Like anything else, cycles can reduce life where the lockbar is concerned.
What that does for returns, repairs and warranty work is only known by CRK, but I am somewhat confident that flicking is not really recommended by CRK.

That is how I always interpreted it, and they even encourage one good flick open after re-assembly.

I let people borrow my sebenza for a minute but definitely not for a whole day or longer...I don't let them out of my site! I loaned my 4-sevens quark to someone on a camping trip and never saw it again, and that was *only* $90.00. Also last time I lent my knife to someone they used it to cut a zip tie, slipped and banged the tip into some stainless steel. Bottom line, nobody will ever take as good a care of it as you...to most people it's "just a knife".

I'm learning as well-- what would be the preferred way to open the knife?

The "flicking" debate has been covered in great detail in many threads here.
Just use the thumb studs to open the knife, as it is their intended purpose. IMHO the Sebenza isn't intended to be flicked open. I love opening mine using the thumb studs or by pinching the blade. I get to feel how smooth and well made the knife is.

Back on topic. I will always have another knife, usually a pioneer SAK or Leatherman, if at work, that I will let someone use. Sometimes they may find one of the other tools on the SAK or Leatherman better suited to their intended task.

I was fishing some coax cable through a wall with a coworker, and he asked to use my knife (Seb' 21 Insingo) to cut the cable. I handed it over and he push cut it against the concrete slab. I didn't even care, I probably would have done the same thing:D

I'm the same way. I carry my CRK to use. Just don't pry to hard with her or bust the tip when I lend it to you.

Oh don't get me wrong, I use my CRK's. It's just that I am going to be the one that push cuts coax cable on concrete with it.

Who an I kidding. I would never push cut anything on concrete with my CRK :D

No one borrows my knife. No one. Don't care if it's a cadet or a CRK. No one. Even my kid's don't ask, they just say "can you cut this for me". My reasoning is simple. If they cared about knives and knew how to use them correctly, they would have their own.

No offense, but carrying a knife for others to use seems silly. Where does one draw the line with carrying extra stuff in case someone wants to use it?

I typically carry five knives. A safe queen, which I basically pull out when I want to show off or snap a pic. A user for myself, exclusively (I'm afraid someone might flick it open or drop it or cut a nonapproved cuttable material without my immediate supervision). A third knife that I'm willing to loan out to friends , but only those who I trust with my life. A fourth knife for 2nd-tier friends, coworkers, and inlaws. Lastly, a fifth "backup-knife" -- you know, in case all four experience some kinda of sequential catastrophic failure.

Mind. Blown.

The only person I have let borrow one of my knives at any price is my Wife, but then again she really is the only one that asks.

Only those who know me well are aware that I carry a knife. And they rarely ask to borrow it, knowing that I'll happily open the package or whatever for them.

My "ex" wife cleaned my knives with a brillo pad in the sink after using them. You can imagine my reaction.

I still have two of them (spydercos), with the scratches.

I thought for sure I chimed in on this one! Oh well I will now.

I don't like handing my knife over often but I always have a cheaper one that I don't feel bad about handing to trusted friends.

No way I'm handing over my 940-1 lol

Even my Opinel knives I wouldn't lend to anyone. No way my large Sebenza. Maybe I'll lend them my Swisstool tool though.
