Can Someone Please Tell Me What Happened To All The Rockers From The 80s ?

I think you can attribute Eddie Van Halen's appearance to the fact that he's a cancer survivor.

True, years of heavy drinking and smoking wore him down. He had a hip replacement in the late 90's. Surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his tongue, and then the chemo and radiation.

Wow- And I thought it was a bad case of Termites/Hail Damage or perhaps the Rock & Roll Dental Plan had raised the Co-Pay.

Hi Rugger-

The last time that I went to see Van Halen a year or so ago, Eddie's speech sounded a bit distorted due to all the medical attention. He was certainly very happy to be onstage again and extremely gracious to the crowd. I don't know if anyone would ever grow tired of listening to 20,000 excited fans chanting their name. Hopefully he has the cancer completely beat.

It's sad that this is the first time I heard about Eddie Van Halen's cancer. Sad to hear it.

Now onto the topic.

The Damn Yankees wasn't a "hair band." They got together when conglomeration groups were sorta popular. Remember the Honey Drippers? There were others and none became overly popular.

Cinderella went the "hair band" route, but their best stuff came as their popularity wanned (a common occurance in regards to the 80's short lived bands) and they were allowed to expand out a bit from "marketable" music.

That's great Blue Jays- good to hear.
I didn't want to come off as sounding too cruel or flippant. Cancer treatments are brutal & cause a great deal of collateral damage. I'm glad that he's back playing out again & I hope he has it beat for good.

Hi All-

Just thought of another band that is around from the 1980's and still occasionally touring: The Scorpions

How about Greg Kihn?

In the 90's he found himsel divorced, broke, and needed to resurrect his career. He's now a DJ at a popular radio station here in the SF Bay area.

Still has a band, his son plays guitar with him.

The Scorpions were also around in the 70s. Great band. One of my all time favorites.

I find it interesting when people criticize certain bands or musical styles/types for being simple or talentless and therefore not worth listening to. For some reason this seems to make people feel they are superior because they only listen to "sophisticated music". Listening to music isn't that complicated. If a tune makes you tap your foot, by all means enjoy it. Who cares if the musician isn't going down as the next Jimmy Hendrix or Curt Cobian. If you think about it, the people who can only listen to "sophisticated music" are somewhat handicapped. The rest of us can enjoy the "sophisticated music" along with the other 95% of the music out there.

Hi FoldersForever-

Excellent point you've made. Some of the most simplistic yet enjoyable rock n' roll music out there was from The Ramones during that era. They clearly weren't the most talented musicians out there, but they sure could write a catchy tune!

I feel sorry for Sharon Osbourne

Hi Cindy-

Don't worry too much about Sharon Osbourne...based on Ozzy's success as lead singer for Black Sabbath and later his own band they've become millionaires several times over. She didn't get married to him at gunpoint.
