Can the pocket clip ruin the folder for you?

Sometimes I like the design of a folder, but hate the clip. This "ruins" the knife for me. I feel like shiny or silver-colored clips can ruin a "tactical" folder because they are too visable when you want to be discrete. Really shiny clips also seem to fit within the my personal truism that generally (not always) "the shinier the knife, the cheaper it is".

Designs that are too artistic also don't appeal to me, such as the clip on the Kershaw Zing. I liked the knife and almost bought one, but I passed because I hated the clip. Kershaw's Oso Sweet also has this same awful "organic" clip.

Any one else have knives that should be added to "the list of shame" in terms of pocket clips gone wrong?

Tip down only clips ruin it for me. I don't care what they look like.

I like simple, understated pocket clips. I've got a couple of Kershaw knives that are great, but don't get the pocket time they deserve because the pocket clips are just huge (Junkyard Dog, for example). I don't know why they chose clips like that, it looks like some sort of Batman merchandise.

I don't use clips but on some folders they give you better opening leverage.

I know how you feel. I don't really mind the shiny clips to much, but do prefer black pocket clips. The shape of pocket clips bugs me more than anything. I hate really wide clips. I also do not like fancy pocket clips. Tip up right pocket carry is a must or I will not even consider the knife.

For me, nah.. I hate the tip up carry on my Recon 1, but i love the blade, so i live with it. If the knife and ergo is good, i can live with the clip

Generally speaking, I don't worry too much about pocket clips though I prefer more subtle, standard looking clips like those on the PM2, Benchmade rift, or Sebenzas. That said, there are a couple knives that I love, but I just can't bring myself to buy because of the pocket clip. Chief among them, the Kershaw Junkyard Dog. Worst pocket clip ever.

I prefer the more subtle clips as well. Benchmade's split arrow design being my favorite so far.

My first thoughts for awful clips were the jyd and benchmade onslaught. Big and gaudy clips like that do influence me away from buying. Not the fault of Kershaw or Benchmade though since they were both collaborations.

I really don't like the trend towards deep carry clips either, since they make it harder to remove the knife from my pocket.

I did buy an orange scaled Kershaw Zing and I have to agree with you, the pocket clip just is not right. Love the knife; hate the clip.

The CRKT Prowler from a few years back needs to be on this list too. Granted, it is not a handsome knife and the blade steel leaves much to be desired but the pocket clip looks completely out of place like it it was added as an after thought. Far from my best knife, but it fits my hand well and is easy to sharpen.

Yes, but only if replacement or modification would be too impractical or expensive. I'm with you on the sheer badness of the JYD clip, but it's pretty easy to modify it into something much simpler.

It most definitely does matter what the clip is like to me.
I bought a cold steel hold out III at a gun show recently, love the knife, but the clip is so stiff that it's nearly impossible to clip or unclip from the pocket, so the knife doesn't get carried.
