Can the pocket clip ruin the folder for you?

The hogue spoon clips stopped me looking at some of there folders I think there right up there with the junkyard dog

I agree and disagree. The aesthetics are kind of terrible but, for me, the Hogue clip works really well both in hand and in pocket. Easy to get in and out but still grips the material well and doesn't create discomfort during use. I think if they just went with a black finish on the clip it would forgive a lot of the aesthetic sins.

I consider the clip like the cars side view mirror's. If you look for it yeah it can ruin the look of the car and make it look silly. But they are IMPORTANT and you do need them, though most of the time when I look at a car (knife) I am not looking and fussing over the mirrors (clip), I am looking at it as a whole, the mirror's are minor and the engine (handle)/body (blade) is more at what I am looking at. Just for kicks here is a Dodge.....not mine though....

I'm surprised no one's mentioned my biggest issue yet. Yes aesthetics play a part in my love of any given knife but I don't understand why makers think most everyday people are running around rolling on the ground and need a clip that is so tight (so it doesn't fall out of our pockets apparently) that you need two hands just to put it back into your pocket. All this effort goes into one handed deployment but it's just as big of a pain in the ass if I need to use my other hand to clip my knife back in my pocket. My Benchmade Dejavoo is the only knife I can think of offhand that is loose enough for me to take it out and put it back one handed. Yes I know I can bend my clips but should I have to? I have a couple of knives where the clip is so tight it has ripped the stitching out of my pockets taking it out. C'mon!

Yes! I've seen some really nice folders that look to have had the clips added on as a distant after thought.
The clip doesn't look like it belongs on that particular knife, sometimes the same clip works on every knife and other times not so much.
The clip is placed in a position that makes the knife uncomfortable to use and awkward to carry.
If the clip doesn't work or feel right, the knife gets no play.

I've modded the clips on a ti Tyrade, very similar to a JYD, and 3 JYD's. I got spare clips from KIA for a the mods I did and sold all but 1 JYD with both clips.

I have 1 gray g-10 JYD with a clip I modded left. I can text you a pic with your Phone Number. You pay shipping, I'll do the mod for free.
