Gollnick, you said that individuals should subordinate their desires for the good of the community. I said that it is that very philosophy that liberals use to justify gun control, gun bans, and knife bans. Again, when the "community" decides that the individual's liberty is not worth more than a little temporary safety for the community, we have tyranny. The so-called "community activists" sit up there and say, "Well, why do you NEED a 'assault rifle'? It has no sporting purpose! Why do you NEED a butterfly knife? It's made for killing people, not cutting boxes!" And then: "We must ban those to save the cheeeeldrennnn!!!! Think about the kids!" Gollnick, you've basically said all of the above except about avatars. Well, this is still America. It isn't about NEED, it's about WANT. The heart of the capitalist system, the heart of liberty and freedom. Being able to read, say, and own things you WANT to.
Again, if strangers come here and form negative opinions, oh well. The reason you worry about that is the fear they'll form coalitions to ban certain knives out of fear. Well, guess what? You're defending that behavior by saying the community has a right to trample the liberty of the individual and the individual must reign in his desires for liberty and submit. There comes a time when men must quit waffling and living in fear of losing their freedom to the tyranny of the community. You either are going to be free or a thrall.
If you don't like the avatars, here's a thought. Post one of your own. Oh, you already have? Then I guess that once you've used your share of freedom, you just want to shut the door so no one else gets to use theirs?
