Can You Assist With Your Opinion? How Fast Should One Pay After "I Will Take It"

Adding ," Communication is Key " This is basic forum behavior stuff

Now as the seller ,you have the right . If you feel for any reason the buyer has done / shown, whatever, you have the right to sell to whomever .

As a buyer ,if you do not communicate ,how do you expect the seller to know what's your plan.

If you can’t make the payment right away, due to work or some other sort of restriction or obligation preventing you from doing it, explain to the seller why, and give him a timeline of when you expect to make the payment within a reasonable period. Don’t just say “I’ll take” it then leave him hanging and wondering if you actually want the thing. That’s what you do by ghosting him till you’re ready.

I’ve had people do that and I find it disrespectful. There’s no reason for that. It’s poor communication etiquette.

In my opinion if you can't do this ,And I have people who know me will say Vince I'll take it catch you later I'm swamped here At least I know But without any info ,if you can't explain, you kinda have no business shopping .

Maybe people like that go to the grocery store & leave their full basket at the register then come back later and expect it to be there waiting for them

Exactly. I had a guy - not on this site, it was a gun related site - post on my sales thread that he would take an expensive scope I was selling almost immediately after I posted it.

Guy then PM’ed me asking all the pertinent questions which I promptly answered, yada, yada, all is good, ok, then - nothing. I wait and wait so a few hours go by and I message him again, he responds saying he’s at work and will send payment when he gets home that evening.

Evening comes and goes, and nothing so I message him again and he says he’s at his kid’s ball game and will pay later on that night. Night comes and goes, and by next morning I haven’t heard anything from him so I message him again asking if he wants the thing or not. He finally responds with an apology that he got home, had a late dinner and fell asleep.

I was pissed and found that pretty piss poor etiquette on his part, but the guy actually turned out to be a decent dude in the end. He had really good feedback and was a long time member there. Now for my part, I didn’t know the guy so I didn’t know what to think. His feedback and status on the site is the only reason I gave him the benefit of the doubt or I would’ve moved on. The problem is people just don’t think sometimes.

If I know you from interactions here and you say “I can’t right now but I’ll catch you later when I get freed up” or something similar, I have no problem with that whatsoever. But if you don’t know the person, at least explain the situation and follow up in a timely fashion. It takes literally a minute or two if not less to make an electronic payment. There’s really not many reasons for something like what I just illustrated in that example. I had two other buyers ready to take that scope immediately.

I generally give people 12hrs or to the next morning, given what time of day it is. I understand they could be at work when they said, "I'll take it". I expect it a lot sooner though.

Haven't bought here, but I have elsewhere. Always by check, sent the next day that the post office is open, most often with tracking number, though that is costly and has taken as much as 8 days to arrive. Good communication is essential.

One big problem is that you can't count on peoples word, that I'll take it means I'll take and they don't just disappear. Unfortunately happens all the time these days.
The other problem I see with making the quick payment after saying i'll take it is that sometimes the sellers are the ones that are slow , in providing the info to do so. After some time new obligations for the buyers time can come up.
As always good coomunication is key, as well as standing by your word

Communication both ways is key. If you, the seller, have certain expectations, make them known to the buyer up front.

If you, the buyer, have a need to wait for a period of hours, make that clear to the seller and find out if he is willing to provide you the grace period.

Personally, I always pay immediately upon agreeing to purchase.

I would add that the clock starts when the seller confirms and shares payment info. I've had times as a buyer where I've claimed an item, and then had to hop on a two hour webinar where I'm on camera. If the seller responds with confirmation and payment information 20 minutes later, it can be at least 2 hours before I am able to get back to it.

Yes, factors such as this, I take into consideration so I am relatively patient after a buyer sends confirmation. As stated above, I started this post to educate myself with other people's feedback here. And I did wait a number of hours for payment. When the buyer did send payment through, he apologized as he "went out to dinner after work." Which I find rather acceptable. Waiting 24 hours might start to test my patience or motivate me to sell the knife to someone else in line.

We're on the same page. And the 24 hour slot seemed pretty well voted in the thread. I would go as low as 12, but 24 sounds better.
