Can you help me with USPS issue

I purchased some knives from an individual here recently and got the box today. Totally sealed USPS flat rate box came to me with one knife missing of the 4. Contacted the seller and he stated that each knife was wrapped up and the box he sent it in was very taped up. Not so with the box I got. The box was not opened by Canadian Customs so the issue lies with USPS. Can anybody help us with what steps we can take about the apparent theft and change of box. So far I have no reason to doubt the seller as he has been great to work with and it wasn't even the most expensive knife- but it was discontinued.

Just want to get some advice from some of you that might have been there and done that. (Not sure if the package was insured).

Thanks

I have never heard of anything quite like this except for serious damage to a package, in which case whatever contents could be retrieved would be sent to the "dead letter office" and repackaged and sent on its way. They would have put in a note explaining this.

I suggest contacting the Postal Inspectors and telling them the story -- basically, copying what you just wrote here to them. Include seller and recipient names and addresses adn contact information, like phone or email.

You can get their contact information from the Postal Service website www.usps.com

insurance would have been great, well, insurance. it would also be helpful to be able to track the route and any stops it made.

if the package was sealed as it was when it left the seller's hands, the issue is with the seller.

if the package was resealed, it is likely with usps.

you will need the box, and be able to prove it was resealed. you will likely be going the way of a personnel complaint and/or crime report. the usps has employees with law enforcement powers that should investigate such matters.

without a receipt or insurance, i think it unlikely you will get your knife if it was indeed an employee who took it, but i suppose it is possible.

Yeah, I sent a ZT 301 to a member here that lives in canada about two weeks ago with usps priority and I don't believe he's received it yet......he emailed me saying that customs has it and he was going to go get it. Luckily I have all the paperwork, receipts, and even pictures of the paperwork just in case. I was able to insure it up to $200.00, but was told that I couldn't put tracking since it was going out of country.

I hope he did get it, it would be a damn shame to have that go to waste and the need to use the insurance would probably take forever and a day.

I've recently started taking pictures of the packages with the postage paid, insurance, tracking, the whole nine yards as soon as I finish paying for it. That aways if there's ever an issue with the way it was shipped, I have proof that it was in a well done box with lots of tape on it.

I hope you get your knife, J.
