Can you repair bent knife?

I don't care about the knife that much so don't worry.

My reaction was pretty much lacking if we're honest. I barley reacted to it. She seemed more bummered than I was. And she also seems worried by my lack of reaction.

Earlier today she sent me screenshot that she ordered me wireless headphones. She says it's to make up for this since she googled the price of the knife and I told her that I also got it as a gift...

I never asked her to order me anything tho...
That’s pretty sweet and considerate of her. Obviously, I don’t know you guys in person, but I don’t think she damaged your knife intentionally to get a reaction from you or something. Just so happens that some knife knowledge that we already have may not be common knowledge for others. That’s fine. We share what we know and move on.

On another note. Don’t take this the wrong way man, but it’s kinda hilarious how this turned to a hot seat for the GF who mistook a knife for a prybar LMAO.

Now, now, no one is perfect. So she is not mechanically inclined. Can she cook?

She can and does... it just usually tastes bad... she'll improve with practice.

Yeah, LOL.

She's not reading this forum, and I doubt she will since only forgein language she learned was German.

But this many people telling me to dump her is just astounding. I'd think that she did it on purpose but then I remember that I'm talking about person who picked up a piece of burning coal with her bare hand... dropped her phone from running car on highway, forgot her wallet on cash register multiple times, or just left there some of the stuff she paid for. And she even broke her finger once, if you're hitting a nail with a hammer - it's possibly not the brightest idea to hit very hard for that first hit while you're still holding the nail with your hand.
But at the other hand - how many girls will even try to make something themself?

Hey S Smiling , I am sure that some of the suggestions by the more crusty farts that inhabit BF are indeed that intolerant, but no doubt some of the comments to dump your lady were made tongue in cheek.

My significant other is not mechanically inclined at all. No one in her family is. Hard for me, a true autodiadactic. I learn faster and actuate better on my own than under most instruction. We have our challenges (I was the one that suggested her own knife) but just finished 30 years together.

Taking for granted that you are perfect and have never done anything dumb to piss her off ( well... maybe...), I see a couple of huge redeeming qualities she has.

First, she recognized that she screwed up and was sorry. (Score!)

You could tell she got how much she goofed up when she tried to say she was sorry by buying you a gift. No doubt she apologized, too.

Next, she is buying herself her own knife to use as she wants so she won't screw up your knives again.

What's not to like?

Agreed. No doubt some other girls wouldn’t even think about a make-up gift. That was pretty awesome of her. That’s why as a fairly young dude I’m taking my time. No rush to find the one. :D —Jim

Well, in her defense I did some dumb stuff too and pissed her off but she was always fairly collected and patient with me.

Yeah, just it's the fact that my way and her way are splitting paths.

My path is going to university I was saving money for, and her path is migrating to Germany (what she was saving money for). So we will be split soon.

I don't believe in fairy tales and I know that long distance relationships don't work, but I will at least still have her in good memory, and she will still at least be my friend.

Here are the pics.

Knife is corroded because she left it in the sink over the night to dry (my fault not telling her it's not stainless).

I tried my best to minimize the roll on the tip as soon as I got it by dragging it against some wood.

She also tried to straighten it back herself before giving it to me.

Here are the results:

Well, it doesn’t look too bad. I’d just clean out the rust with water diluted baking soda.

Well, despite very stout edge there is still some rolling and a chip.
Warp in the blade is less noticeable now that she tried to fix it, but what bothers me the most is the bend in the tip which is significant.

Also, grinding out this chipping and rolling and resharpening will be a task. Everyone who has a knife in D2 knows it. I have diamonds luckily, so that should give me some speed if I decide to try to save it.

My primary goal for today will be trying to straighten out the blade and the tip. If I manage to do that - then I'll fix rest of the issues too.

If it snaps - then no grinding for me, and I'll also be posting pics of the grain structure here, for purposes of science :D

Well, good luck man. At least it didn’t happen to your warcraft tanto lol. :D

Yeah. But 5mm of CPM-3V would most likley stand up to that just fine.

And she wouldn't throw it because she finds it heawy lol...

Jokes aside, she ordered herself smaller throwing knife and SRK-C. So her EDC will be manlier than mine (and I currently have none lol).

Well, I messed up.

The idea was to baton it into a stump to straighten the tip first. And after that cutting a line into a stump with a saw, and then putting entire blade into that cut and bending it back to straight.

The snap happened when I tried to baton the tip of the blade into a stump, I used a piece of wood as a baton but it was very surprising.
Other thing that surprised me was the place where the crack happened. I expected that if snap is going to happen - it will happen near the first screw that's closest to the blade.
For some reason they drilled a hole the part of the tang that has no screws, and that same hole was structural weak point that in my opinion shouldn't be there.

This knife has been through a lot and I don't mean to bash on it, it's extremley tough for what it is, but again - there's no justified reason for tis hole to be placed here either-

I guess you now have a higonokami knife?

I suppose you could still replace the scales to have a usable knife. Whether that’s worth the trouble, that depends on you bud.

what batoning??!

guess you could count yourself
lucky that it was the knife which
broke and not you :-)
better luck next time!

Since the tang of already small handle is broken and the blade is still bent - it'll go to trash.

Yeah I do realize that I could get injured by doing that.

... She broke several smartphones on very stupid ways, she filled her car with wrong fuel few times ...

...Once before we started dating we were on a BBQ and as piece of burning coal dropped out she went and grabbed it with bare hand trying to toss it back in - you know what happened next... she doesn't use her brain sometimes.

First time we had a dishwasher, my wife used regular liquid detergent, like Dawn. I had to use a snow shovel to get rid of suds 3 feet deep in the kitchen. (To be fair, she came from a country that didn't use dishwashers back then.)

I took a blacksmithing class once. A piece at black heat slipped out of the tongs and I instinctively reached down and picked it up. Homer Simpson moment.
