Can you repair bent knife?

that hole was put in to save weight... it's fairly standard

I'm a bit shocked that it broke there, since it's really quite thick & the hole is rounded so there should have been no direct stress risers
Maybe the tempering was 'off' or missed in some way?

It’s always disturbing to see a knife turned into a finger guillotine. Glad no one was hurt. The crack could have been already there from the past throwing.

Breaking stuff is part of a learning curve. Don’t sweat it.

Well, I messed up.

The idea was to baton it into a stump to straighten the tip first. And after that cutting a line into a stump with a saw, and then putting entire blade into that cut and bending it back to straight.

The snap happened when I tried to baton the tip of the blade into a stump, I used a piece of wood as a baton but it was very surprising.
Other thing that surprised me was the place where the crack happened. I expected that if snap is going to happen - it will happen near the first screw that's closest to the blade.
For some reason they drilled a hole the part of the tang that has no screws, and that same hole was structural weak point that in my opinion shouldn't be there.

This knife has been through a lot and I don't mean to bash on it, it's extremley tough for what it is, but again - there's no justified reason for tis hole to be placed here either-

Take scale off , find some piece of round steel in same Dia. as hole ...cut it in same thickness as thickness of tang . Mix some epoxy and put it all together .I bet that handle will be stronger then before :) Then try to straighten the tip ...............and  :D

LOL !!! That's the spirit! Left handed or right handed... still chuckling.

I have my personal Cutlery that I carry all the time and use all the time, and that even extends to the kitchen.

The love of my life had no clue how serious I take my cutlery. After a couple of times a finding my kitchen knives in the sink with plates, dishes, and pans on them, I decided it was better to keep her than squawk about $100 knife.

I bought her two kitchen knives that belong to her and are for her use only. My knives are off limits, no negotiations.

That was fine with her, and the problem was solved. You should get that Boker back in shape and kiss it goodbye.

Robert

That's happening in my house... my sweet Wusthofs in the sink with ceramic plates, silverware, etc. I cringe daily. I've all but given up. But I may use your advice... give her those sweet Wusthofs and use it as an excuse to buy myself a couple honeys only for me.

Time to get her a Busse
Yes:thumbsup:

One edge near that hole was in different texture and color as can be visible on the pic, it was rather smooth, and rest of the crack is grainy.

True, but I still have a feeling that it wouldn't crack if it wasn't for that hole there.

You're right, those edges wgere the crack happened are very sharp, I'm lucky it didn't happened in my hand.
