Canal Street/BFC forum pattern vote.

What type of steel will this knife be sporting? I'm asking because I like my traditional folders with carbon steel.

I will have to ask them. What I have seen from them so far is 420HC and D2.

Others may have seen other steels.

Not trying to complicate matters, but I could easily change my vote to a ring-turn knife! They are cool, and I don't have one! Nice steel and natural handles still apply.

Sorry for the picture, but I hope it shows what we are referring to.....

IIRC, they work on a cam type movement to open and close the blades.

If available, I think they would be way cool.

If that's the "ring knife" that's being discussed. . . .that is definitely cool !

OK, I'm in with the ring knife too, but can we please get some spec's on blade type and blade count, unless of coarse that has already been decided on this knife. And if so, what are they?

Edited To Add: I would much prefer to keep the dealers out of it to keep the cost down. Bastid's integrity is beyond reproach, and as such I have no problem whatsoever with him handling funds.

As you can plainly see, it is striped metal and purple scales... :D ...J/K.

That is the Canal Street version... I believe the picture was from SHOT? I'd call it a sleeveboard pen (2 blades...ring for either blade) pattern. Don't know if any others have ever been produced...or steel/steels type.

I vote for a stockman, provided that it has natural handle materials and carbon steel.

The ring knives I saw in their booth at Blade ran in stag and the cost was 130 or so if I remember.

What we can do is decide on a pattern. Looks like stag is going to take the handle material vote so far (stag is not cheap compared to bone).

As far as price is concerned. It is going to be what Canal Steet charges we are ordering a special run and I would hope that if we order 10 or 15 of them we will get a decent price. "Street" price vs anything else does not come into play here. If the policy is that they only ship to a licensed dealer, we might have to pay the dealer 2 to 5 bucks extra per knife + shipping to me.

For those that do participate, you will get a copy of the invoice and if you wish I can mail a copy of the Money order I will use to make the payment too.

(I guess some folks are going to have to trust me, but I am not going to lie to folks unless we are talking about 10's of millions of dollars, I might actually be tempted then, but I doubt it.) :D

Lets decide on what we want. I think if we order at least a dozen we will find that the price will be quite reasonable and close to if not at the wholesale cost of their knives. ;)

The Gigster would like to change his vote and go with a "ring knife !" :D

I'm in depending on the pattern selected, blade steel and as long as it's a folder.

My pattern preference:

Doctor's
Gunstock
Trapper
Stockman

Stag would be nice, but other natural materials are fine, too.

Doctor's Knife first choice, would look at others except a fixed blade and or synthetic (delrin, celluloid) handles.

Stag:thumbup:
multiblade:thumbup:
D2::thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:

Count me in, it sounds pretty good.

I would lean toward a Whittler, Trapper or Stockman in anything with natural handles, but if folks wanted to go in a different direction, I would still be interested (I think  )..I would not be too interested in anything faux or celluloid..

Thanks,

Sunburst

I am going to follow the Gigster example and change my choice in post #2 of a stockman to a ring knife. I have a couple of stockma(e?)ns and in truth they are nice but common as fleas on a goat back. The ring knife is a new one to me and it looks pretty cool.

Here is their site.

Bastid, I'm sure you know, but everyone may not. the prices on Canal Street's web site are MSRP full retail. If you want to see more realistic prices go to one of the dealer sites. ie. Cumberland Knifeworks (Bill Horn).
