Canal Street/BFC forum pattern vote.

Bastid Sir,

I think that sounds grrrrrrrrrreat. :D

Yeah, sounds good to me. I know stag will be a bit more, we will just have to see how high it will be. What about the pattern. I voted for congress, but the "ring" knife has been mentioned a lot. It would be fair to say most of us don't have that knife. If they make that knife, it would be nice to have that pattern.

I am not opposed to a ring knife pattern and bone or stag is a good choice. I don't have an opinion on the steel. As I was hoping for a fixed blade it will probably come down to price, but I am still interested.

O.K, seeing the interest in the Ring Knife, and taking a cue that most of us don't have one, I now officially and categorically place it number 1 on my list.
Stag or bone handles please.
Stockman is number 2, if we need an alternate.

This is a bit OT, but I do like the stockman pattern - except I prefer rounded bolsters for pocket carry as they're less hard on the fabric. Does anyone agree? Whittlers dont seem to be 'up there' in this vote, so if we could get a stockman with round bolsters, I'd be happy with that.

OK. Here is what I am purposing. We take the cost of the knife and divide that by the number of people who want one. Everyone pays that figure in addition to the cost of the knife. This money buys one extra knife which is given to Bastid for his trouble. I know he will probably say no to this but he is going to no small bit of trouble doing this for the rest of us and to me it seems like the right thing to do. He should be compensated for his work. What say ye?

(I will now remove my lips from Bastid butt:D)

.. Its the least we can do.. Gus will be going through a lot during the coarse of this project and as this thing takes shape. And lets face it, were not the easiest band of Pirates to deal with.. arrrhg  :p :D

Agreed (you should remove your lips, that is);)
Seriously, it's a good idea to reward The Big B for working hard for us!

Guys, your offer touched me. (seriously). (I am not talking about lips :p)

I can't do that. I will actually get a lot of pleasure helping with this little project and am glad to do so.

I am just honored to be a part of this group of collectors and occasional makers who drop in here.

I would much rather us do that for Spark.

Good Idea getting such a knife for Spark. I'm on board with that.

Here's my only turn-ring, a Schrade Walden two blade. It's a nice old stainless steel knife, the opening mechanism being the only thing that makes it unique in this day.

Sure, I'm in with all that. Spark, ring knife, whatever...(After years of being married, I learned to just nod and go along ;) )

Phil, I have that same knife, but it didn't belong to Jim Kerwin...:)

Getting a knife for Spark is a nice idea...I'm pretty sure Phil did that with the first Schrade Forum knife. I'd be in for contributing for that knife.
Maybe we could at least get Bastid's made with Goat horn handles...to sorta cover the touching thing...:D :D

LOL,

Well it is not Thursday morning yet, but it looks like the ring has it. (Gig and I handled one at Blade in the Canal Street booth at Blade and I forgot about that pattern in my first post. It is pretty cool and different as far as a modern production pattern.)

Pricing:
I am thinking we should be getting these at a little less than we are seeing them on sites (as long as we have enough in the order.) I am a whittler/doctor's knife kinda collector who will take just about anything from some makers :D, but I think you guys made a very unique choice. Good job.

I know this is an unusual pattern for a lot of us and some may not be interested at all and that is cool. So I will start another thread tomorrow and see who is in (at least until we get the cost). Once we get a number to work with, I think we will be ready to contact Canal Street and go from there. I just need to get an idea of the quantity before talking with them.

I am thinking we are going to have to come up with 12 or 15 knives or so.

I did get the OK from Spark to use BFC/BladeForums/or the BFC logo on the knife. I kind of want to keep it simple on that thinking a shield or etch with BFC on it.

Keep the discussion going - no telling what we will come up with.
