Like most of you I have been carrying a slipjoint of some kind in my pocket for many, many years.
I recently stared carrying and buying newer models made by GEC, I have several of them and for the money I am very happy.
I decided to branch out a little and try some of the other US manufacturers, I already have several Queens and Shcatts from a few years back but with the closing of Canal Street I decided I better get one before they were all gone.

I liked the look of the Boys Knife from AG with the gold G10, it arrived last night and is going back today.
(nothing against AG here, they are great)
On the polished blade there are deep sanding/file marks, the bolsters are two different thicknesses and the blade grind is way off.
Just to be as subjective as possible I took out all of my GECs and gave them the same scrutiny, none of them had these issues.
Ill let the pictures say the rest, RIP Canal Street, with quality like this, it was time to go..

Yikes I don't like the looks of the bolster thickness. The blades I could care less about as most of my knife be come user and will get scratched up eventually. Thank you for the warning was going to pick up one but now I think there last runs might be lacking quality as they knew it was the end.

This one is going to Feedback. I will add that one unsatisfactory knife does not indicate that a company should close their doors. I've had many good knives from Canal Street and hated to see them go.

I am. It agreeing with they should not have closed but the quality is not there on this one

I had one of the half moon trappers.... the knife was really really good as far as fit and finish. It's quite possible with the impending closing of doors that quality slipped. With all of the positive comments I have read in the past on their knives, I wouldn't think that they should have closed their doors.

So, you have ONE CS knife and you think they should have closed because of faults???
They put out lots of good knives, one bad one doesn't make for a "needed to close" comment IMO.
Lots of good folks worked there.

I agree any American company is a good company rather have my money go here than overseas to China. I feel bad for all the lost jobs wonder where they will go for work next

I love my 2015 forum knife, it is in my pocket right now! So if you get a bad batch of fries from Burger King should the restaurant close???
You need to keep the knee jerk reactions in check, losing an American business like CSC is a loss all around.

i think massive disappointment and frustration took over the op, as it does to all of us from time to time. i could be wrong......if so, so be it.

I've got 2 CSC Barlows, a Cannitler, and a Ka-Bar Coppersmith Barlow that was made by CSC. The Coppersmith is favored by many people here on the forum and the quality is outstanding. Based on the CSC knives I've seen, I'd put them up against Queen or GEC any day. One knife does not represent the entirety of a company's quality. If it did, then I have a couple of GEC's that indicate they should close by your standards. Case should have closed years ago. And how has Queen stayed alive for so long? Seriously? Should have closed... One knife near the end of their run.

I would second this. I have a few Canal Street knives, including a Boys knife. I also gave several as gifts to nephews over the years years and have been very happy with fit and finish on all those i have put my hands on. I don't think this is representative of their quality, i think you just got unlucky with this one, it definitely doesn't look up to par.

This reminds me of two recent threads regarding knives from GEC that were not up to the company's standards. Like others have said, sometimes a less than optimal quality knife slips out. While I don't own anything from CSC, all of the positive things i've read about the 2015 forum knife has made me take an interest in that knife, and others that were produced by CSC.

My heart goes out to the people at CSC that are looking for a job, I can't imagine it's easy to find another job in that field. I was very sad to see another US company close its doors, especially considering the amount of good things i've read about them.

If Canal Street is indeed closing, how motivated would you be in producing / maintaining high quality if you were on the production floor knowing that your job is soon going away? Not that it's an excuse but, certainly, it's a natural tendency.

Also, the more skilled people, in the face of impending lay-off and not so rosy job market, may have moved on to new companies leaving the less-skilled or less quality minded people behind. It also won't be surprising if, in the face of losing their good people, they now have to hire new or temporary workers to complete their final production commitments.

Lentuk, please don't buy anymore knives. I'd hate for you to get another bad one and wish that another company closes down. For that matter, don't buy anything anymore. I'd hate for you to wish the closing of any car manufacturer, electronics company, a contractor's business or even a toothpaste manufacturer. Don't buy that carton of eggs either because if one is found cracked then the farm will have to shut down also.

See how ridiculous my statement is? It's equally as ridiculous as yours stating that CSC needed to close down because a single item wasn't up to par.

Well now that I know CSC also made the Kabar coppersmith series that's two bad CSC knives I have sent back...
Wow, this is interesting, so if you bought a couple of any product and it sucked, you would keep buying that product?
Who sounds more ridiculous?

As far as the people that working there losing there jobs, yes that sucks but people lose thier jobs to factories closing all the time, please don't try to lay that guilt trip on me and try to make me look like some kind of unacaring scoundrel, Im just a consumer that spends my money where I can get the best product for that hard earned cash.

Don't know what to tell you other than your experience has been different from mine. I think people are just reacting to he vehemence of your post. I bought a car I was very unhappy with once, and while I never bought another one, I didn't think Ford should go out of business.
