Just got this yesterday............love the glow in the Smooth Sunset Bone.
I am posting pictures for the first time here............pls excuse the quality.
The Leather Sheath from KSF goes quite well with the colour of the Smooth Sunset Bone.

How would you say the quality compares to Great Eastern?

Sorry..............can't comment on that as I don't have any GEC knives.

But I can definitely tell you that the Canal Street knife is IMHO flawless in all aspects that I could think of.

Perfect fit and finish, Rich deep glow in the Sunset Bone, sharp edge out of the box, good snap.......I am in love with it and am tempted to purchase more traditional folders from Canal Street.

Whereas I'm not usually a Trapper fan...something about that slightly longer bolster makes me want one of those.

Great knife!

I've always been happy with everything from Canal Street. I just wish they would do something about that shield.

fateh great pics, if the fit & heattreat on the steel is quality then it belongs in the gec class. seems like they are coming up with new bone faster than we can buy them.

Dennis, I am still a newbie and don't know much about the heat treat but the fit and finish of all components is top of the line.

I couldn't agree more about that shield. It is absolutely hideous. Canal Street makes wonderful knives, I have handled them on several different occasions, and been favorably impressed, but I can't get past that awful shield. It is SO ugly. I won't buy a Canal Street until they change it.

The knife in the OP is gorgeous otherwise. The bone is beautiful, and no doubt the fit, finish, and blade action are superb.

Thinking about one of these.
This is on the way now:

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's hidious, it just looks like a cheap button.

Aside from that, their knives are every bit as good as comparable knives from Case or Queen, though maybe not quite at the level of GEC (but definitely close).

I have both a Canal Street and a several GECs. I would rate the quality as about equal, but with a different feel.

The GECs feel more robust, like a very very nice work knife.
The Canal Street feels more refined, like a fine gent's knife.

The GECs have very strong springs. My wife is intimidated by them. (I loaned her a GEC knife at church and she found it so hard to open that she borrowed scissors from someone else.)

The Canal Street action is very smooth and opens easily, but is not anemic. The fit of the blade and springs on my Canal Street may be a bit superior to that of the GECs.

A lot of people seem turned off by the Canal Street medallion. While not exactly drawn to it, I certainly don't have a problem with it. A matter of taste. YMMV.

They all see considerable pocket time.

I have the yellow rose of Texas by Great Eastern great knife. This company is going to be great.

How well does the medallion age? I'm not really into it either, but I get the feeling it might look better after some dirt and wear. Am I wrong?

Their shield certainly darkens, which is a good thing. I too don't much like coin type shields, but, Queen Cutlery's shield is not much better either...

This Trapper is a good sized knife too, not too large but credible nevertheless. I just don't like the easy springs I've encountered on Canal St. knives.
