Canal Street Half Moon Trapper Smooth Sunset Bone

That is a very nice knife fatehbajwa (and bigmo). I hope you enjoy it. I am a fan of the softer springs of Canal Street, and I also like the shield! I do wish it was pinned, but most likely it will never be an issue. The half moon trapper is a great design. A lot of blade length packed in there also.

but, Queen Cutlery's shield is not much better either...

I have to say that I think that Queen has the worst shield. At least you can easily identify what Canal Street's shield is supposed to represent.

By the way, awesome trapper. I've been on the fence on buying one for a while, but those photos might put me over the edge.

The shield is the only thing that kept me from picking up a CS knife.
Thats a beauty though. I really like the color on the bone. Enjoy

I think that's a beautiful knife. I really don't understand all the fuss about the medallion; it's part of what makes it identifiable as a Canal Street Knife. To me it is a lot less obtrusive and obnoxious than some of the blade etches out there (GEC's Tango comes to mind as well as some of the stuff Case does). I find it a little strange that some manufacturers seem to get a free pass on some things. If it turns some folks off, maybe that's a plus for me as it keeps demand and prices lower. :)

I like this knife and I expect to own a CS knife soon; they are close to the top of the list for me.

It's pretty easy to buff out a blade etch. I'm just trying to picture what that medallion is going to look like with some patina, because that bone is gorgeous.

I own 3 Canal Streets and all are Top Shelf knives that I like alot. I dont own any GEC yet because I prefer knives with an easier pull. But their Mink pattern sure has me interested in getting my first one.

How well does the medallion age? I'm not really into it either, but I get the feeling it might look better after some dirt and wear. Am I wrong?

Their shield certainly darkens, which is a good thing. I too don't much like coin type shields, but, Queen Cutlery's shield is not much better either...

This Trapper is a good sized knife too, not too large but credible nevertheless. I just don't like the easy springs I've encountered on Canal St. knives.

I don't think I've noticed whether it darkened or not. I've not paid all that much attention to it.

I do like the 14-4 CrMo blade on mine. This is the Latobe Steel equivalent of 154CM. Takes a good edge and holds it a long long time. The Scot in me screams, "where else will you find that high end alloy in an affordable traditional?"

How easy are these to pinch open?

I'm really liking the pattern, but I'm thinking about picking up one in American Chestnut. The Sunset Bone looks beautiful, but I remember seeing the barn they used for the American Chestnut scales when I was at Ft. Campbell.

Pat.

Just right I would say.......easy enough to open so that one does not struggle while tight enough to have a good snap.

I agree with that description.

A curse on the lot of you. I had just managed to talk myself out of getting this one - same bone, everything. Took me months

Queen's shield is much better. As a graphic illustrator/designer I can tell you that all CSC did was simply take the letters CS in the font "university" and put it into a circle. Absolutely no design work or creativity. In fact that type of emblem is so overused (subdivision signs, ect.) that is a cliche. What I can say for them is that the canoe I purchased from them is one of the nicest canoes I have. They make extremely nice knives so I overlook the shield.
