Cancer warning on knives?!

Many commonly used chemicals are known to cause cancer. That includes lubricants and residual monomers left in plastics and includes chemicals which only cause cancer if you consume them.

California, for whatever reason, requires that if any such chemical is present in any amount, a warning sticker is required. As a result, that sticker is found frickin' everywhere. Some companies just put the sticker on, no matter what's in the box.

Buy the knife if you like it. Just don't eat it.

It'd be funny if the sticker was attached with an adhesive that had a cancerous ingredient and the sticker needed a warning sticker for the warning sticker for the warning sticker... lol

They'll warn you about the minute amount of a toxic chemicals on everything but the usda will allow brominated vegetable oil in mountain dew. Sigh.
Mmmmmmmm ... Brominated vegetable oil <<<DROOL>>>

(I've consumed a minimum of 4 liters of Mountain Dew per day, every day, since 1967. No health problems ... except maybe a caffeine addiction)

It's probably good for you then. My good friends grandma smokes cigarettes at age 91, probably good for her too.

It's kind of ironic that we need these warnings to protect us in California, but, the air quality in Riverside county is horrible.

Yeah, I live in a valley east of San Bernardino. Beautiful mountains when you can see them, but even on our worst day it's still better than it was before they put in the pollution controls. Old Timers tell me the air was brown....

Wait until we start seeing fresh food with the CA cancer label.... Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I think the warning on the knife is a good reason to buy a quality knife from a reputable maker that does not require such warning. I have never seen this warning on any spyderco, benchmade, or kershaw knives i have purchased.

Surprised knives sold in California don't contribute to global warming or climate change or whatever term they are calling it now. I don't buy knives in California anyway.

None of my benchmade, spyderco, or kershaws have ever had that warning. I see a lot of products in california that have the label but the overwhelming majority are cheaper products imported from china. One could carry a chunk of lead in their pocket all day every day and not have any negative effects, but why do it if you have a choice?
I think the moral of this story is buy from trusted companies.

People may have had a similar sentiment about asbestos and lead in the 50s.

I live in california. It is called Prop 65 warning. If you look it up, you will find that products sold in california that have certain substances known to cause cancer or reproductive harm have to labelled as such.
Funny. A product made of something that MIGHT cause cancer if atomized somehow and inhaled must come with a warning... but loaves of bread, corn, cereal, sugar, etc. that will DEFINITELY lead to inflammation, heart disease, diabetes, etc. are labeled as healthy because they're "low fat" or "whole grain".

We're a bunch of idiots.

I had never heard of that. I did a search and according to mayo clinic the fda originally that it was safe and now they are currently reversing that designation and european countries have banned it.
our government did the same thing with leaded gasoline in the early to mid 1900s. They said the lead was safe even when there was evidence to the contrary. The eventually realized the harm and reversed its decision. It is said that since lead has been removed from american gasoline that the average iq of americans has increased by a few points.

I am one of those old timers. I grew up in the Los Angeles area in the 50's and 60's. The air WAS brown on bad smog days. I can remember days in high school when you could not see the far end of the football field. No wind sprints for football practice on those days.
