canoe pattern.

That's really one of the attractive features of the pattern. Combination of the bolsters and spear blade really make for a pinchable main blade.

This is the pattern that really made me appreciate the spear blade.... IMO, it's one of the handiest blades.

Here's a newish pattern from Rough Rider, 3 inch closed, lock back master spear whittler, 3 spring. with a wonderful wide coping blade. The three spring width makes a small knife feel perfect for it's purpose. Feels right in the hand for whittling.

Best regards

Robin

I must be ill. When my Buck 301 stockman arrived, I took my Buck 389 Canoe out of my pocket. That did not work out so well. I missed the canoe. Put it back in the pocket, took the stockman out ... that did not work out so well either. I missed the stockman.
So ... now both of them live in my pocket.

I really like the look of that Rough Rider three-blade Canoe, Pipeman!

I just got my first Canoe, a Colonel Coon in smooth bone:

It's a neat pattern. I'd like to find one with a similarly short main (2.5" or less) but with no exposed tang when closed, but that blade length seems to be uncommon in Canoes -- at least, as far as I can tell.

I have Case,Colt, and Rough Rider canoe patterned knives.I'm looking for one last be all end all canoe pattern to end my sickness. I'm 51 years old and fell in love with the pattern. I'm looking for THE ONE to last me the rest of my life. please,if you can, post pictures. Thanks people.

Like bkzk, I'm currently infatuated with the canoe pattern; I have several RR canoes and a Colt canoe. This thread is just full of canoe eye candy!!

My favorite is a 1987 four blade by Frank Buster Celebrated Fight'n Rooster in beautiful green pick bone.

What a stunning canoe, Jeff!:thumbup::thumbup:

Man, how could I have forgotten the Cannitler. One of my all time favorites. They were made in lots of different handle materials and although the pattern is discontinued, some of them can still be found with a little persistence.

Here's mine in Green Stag Bone. A real pleasure to carry and use.

...
The Canal Street Cannitler inspired me to get the same model Rough Rider that Robin posted. (In fact, the Cannitler inspired me to discover the RR, and I think my photo of the RR inspired Robin to get his! :p) But black mamba, Railsplitter, and Pipeman all posted canoes with more than 2 blades, which I find to be interesting models.

afishhunter, I know there's a Buck 389 in my future because of your testimonials!

SAK Guy beat me to it but since the scrim is hand done each has its own subtle differences. This is the only Canoe Pattern I own & have not used it so no experience in how useful (in the hand) the pattern is.

Brumby and SAK Guy, what's the significance of the number stamped on the main blade bolster on your knives?
I REALLY like your knife, Brumby, since my house number is 1217!
Those scrimshaw canoes are splendid!:thumbup:
