Canoe?

I picked up a Queen City canoe in 1095 just this past week and it has been really hard to not put it in my pocket every day. I picked it up to try a new pattern and not really knowing if I really would like it. No question about it, its a very nice EDC pattern. The Queen canoe is very well built and a good looking knife, too.

I've never been a huge canoe fan, but I like the idea of a single backspring, and that queen city is a beauty.

I only have one, a Case Amber Bone in CV. Evidently it sat in the store for a while as it's 2001 production. I got it because I liked the design, but I haven't carried it yet. Right now it's just sitting in a shelf display in my "Man Cave". I do think it would make a fine EDC. The bone handles are much lighter than the other "Amber" bone handled knives I've seen. I'd prefer them to be a little darker. The jigging on the other hand is quite dark.

If I get a Queen in D2, will it get a patina?

Thats a good question. I might give mine the vinegar treatment to find out. I bet that anything will take a patina if you are patient and show it who the boss is.

D2 is boss!

The blades will slowly grey and stain.
The polished blades will go faster than the satin finish.

I have a Utility (slimline trapper) in a satin finish that I use in the kitchen all the time. Hardly changed color.
On the other hand, a Case CV of Boker carbon go dark in 'no' time.

I have a couple of Queen Canoes, in Amber bone and Maple.
A solid knife with a thick main blade and very thin pen blade
I find it heavy in my pocket

I also have a Boker Canoe in carbon.
It is smaller and thinner than the Queen
The F&F is not as good as Queen.
It is a much easier carry

The Canoe is one of my favorite patterns. The Queen has a single backspring but the Case has two. This means the Queen main blade is a lot thicker, but also must be "bent" (crinked?) in order to allow both blades to nest when closed. The Case doesn't have to do this, both blades are straight but they are both thinner as well. Of the two, I don't really have a preference, they're both nice. If forced to choose, I'd have to take the Queen, mainly because because of looks I suppose.

BTW, the large Canoes are called "gunboats". I like those too. :)

Actually, the main blade in the Queen Canoe is not "bent" per se.
Instead, the grind on one side of it is angled slightly, which leaves a space
for the smaller blade which is very slim.

Yes, the main blade is definitely not ground symmetrically. That must be creating an optical illusion, because it sure looks bent.
Thanks

Today I am carrying a Queen Classic Canoe, in 1095 with the crimson jigged bone handle. It is one of my top knives. I like the pattern but prefer others better for general use. I like the slimness and treat it as my "dress" knife.

How have gotten a patina on D2?

I have found it very slow indeed, and mainly with a polished finish blade

I have one that I got used in a trade that came with a solid patina, another which I wrapped a vinegar soaked cloth around for several hours and then used for a year or so, and lastly my Cattle King, which I've only had for about 2 weeks now and has cut many apples, oranges, etc. is starting to turn already...

Cattle King slight patina after about 10 days.

Gunstock with patina. Patina was started with white vinegar and knife was thereafter used almost daily for food prep...

I don't have pictures of the third with open blades.
