I recently got my hands on an Ontario Rat 2 (I kind of skipped over the mid class knives) it is every bit as good as its reputation would make you believe. For $30-$40 price range it really can't be beat.

Completely forgot the Cold Steel Voyagers - bargains in AUS8.
Feel foolish seeing as I own a use a bunch oe them.
 
Hands down.... the best under 50$ is a Ontario rat 1. I have the base model in Aus8. I love it... I plan on getting the d2 model, but am very happy just to have this one... better yet I picked mine up at Walmart for 24.95$... best 25$ I have ever spent.. for 50 get two and be twice as happy:)

I just got a H5 today, haven't used it yet but seams to be a very good value @$35.

There are some gems out there in the sub $50 range. I just recently picked up a spyderco persistance for work (smaller tenacious) and it's much better than I thought. As long as you don't expect too much from a non super steel, you shouldn't be disappointed.
I love my ontario rat1. Can't say enough good things about it. The Skyline is light and slim but I carray it for more light duty chores. I don't own a real steel H5 yet, but it's on my wish list.
 
For $24 the Rat doesn't look too bad. The Real Steel Gerfalcon looks good with the frame lock. Delica 4 may be just a little short under 3" blade? But overall the weight is what now concerns me. I see some that I like, then see that its 5oz? That's heavy
 
The H5 seems like a great knife, but some colors are out of stock. Shop around to see what's available.

The delica and skyline are both unnoticeable in pocket. The rat 1 is a little bulky depending on the pants your wearing.
 
How cheap could I get a mini-Griptilian for? I could push my limit if the deal was right. Just wanting a satin finish plane edge, color doesnt matter
 
the cold steel rajah 3 is also a great edc in that price range, in fact i think its one of the most underrated knives around. i think the shape and design is very useful and its a very durable knife. i know the old aus8 ones were going for as low as $30 or so when the new ones with the new steel just came out, which was a real bargain.

I recieved a RAT 1 from the "Pay it forward" thread. They are fantastic. I would have been happy to spend $25 on this knife. The Utilitac's are suppose to be the same quality too!

Have you checked out the Kershaw Emerson line?
For the price point...theyre ok. 30-40 bucks. My fav is the CQC-6K....
Spydercos are better but these are another suggestion. I have a few.

Delica. Definitely the #1 choice. This is my favorite knife and I have a ton of knives.

However, for about $26 or so, knifeworks.com has exclusives of the RAT, Avispa, and Zancudo folders, and the RAT even comes in D2.
