Carbon FIber/Kevlar?

That's awesome. I hope to cut it up and get 2 sets of scales from it but, well see.

colu41 , just one suggestion. You could split this material like wood lengthwise , it s easier than to cut with saw ... for the crosswise cutting I use hand saw for metal with worn and mostly broken teeth ...

It looks like it would make an excellent through tang block!

I looked at it for about 5 minutes trying to find something. Lol I couldn't. What wrong with it?

There must have been some crossed internet wires over here. The picture was definitely NOT kevlar, haha. It looks normal now.

Show us some pics when you use it.

It looks identical to Micarta ShotBlocker, but a thicker cut. I tested a sample piece and it didn't work out for me. Our knives are sanded to 400 grit and then buffed. The resin seemed to wear away at much faster rate than the fibers, thus exposing their ends and catching the compound. So yeah, don't bother with a buffer. Also, it is far itchier to work with than carbon fiber or G10.

.283" thick sheet will definitely catch a 9mm slug though!

I just searched Micarta shot blocker. Its used in armored vehicles along with other things. I found a sheet that is .396" thick, 96" x 48" Or something like that and it was $900+!!!

colu41 , one more thing , ask your buddy if they have this kind of kevlar . If they are using , must have a waste material .It is used for bulletproof vests, helmets .....etc .Resin is already on it . I think it's great for hidden tang .Just do layers over tang /better copy of tang / and in the furnace on about 150 celsius ... /pressure is needed and therefore between two steel plates / Too bad I do not have pictures how it looks on the handle of the knife.....

Yeah, it's pricey stuff! This is what I was quoted for the minimum thickness sheets (any thinner and they can't certify it "shotblocker"):

"Level 1 shotblocker
.283” x 48 x 96
$455 ea
Lead time 3-4 weeks to make
*this is a made to order item. They require us to purchase at least 2 sheets"
