Per Sal from the Spyderco company forums:

We decided that it was time to make the change. The Native4 is the first piece, more of a design test, of the refined pattern. The first one will come out as a Seki made model in limited production.

Same size as the current Native, 3" full flat grind, VG-10 mid lock-back. Full stainless skeletonized liners. Matt finish Carbon Fiber scales. 4 way E4/D4 steel clip.

Once we feel the design refinements are accepted by the afi's (you), then we'll begin tooling an FRN version to be made in Golden. The Golden version will be made like the E4/D4 (nested skeletonized liners, 4 way clip, texture like the D4. Wal-Mart has already indicated that if they keep the Native in the line-up, they would like to change to the new Golden model when it's available. We're still a ways out on that.

:eek::eek::eek:

I haven't been this excited about a knife since I got my BG-42 Military a year and a half ago! I'd love a wire clip on it, but understand the design limitations because of the 4-way clip. I gotta start saving.

Excellent!!!
I was going to buy a new Para-Military and had some concerns about the compression lock. This puts my worries to an end:thumbup::thumbup:, I'll be buying the Native instead:D IT's a perfect size perfit handle and with full SS liners and full flat grind my dreams were answered:D

well theres a new para coming out in d2 and foilage green:thumbup:.....wait for that cause the compression is even better than the front lock IMHO

This is one of the best threads I've seen today. A Native in carbon fiber!!! Sounds awesome. Where do I sign up?????

Sounds really great. I would have rather taken it linerless and with a wireclip, like the Native III, but I guess I'm gonna like it anyway.

Well said, my sentiments exactly. However, we will take the improvements a few steps at at time.;)

A carbon fiber NativeIII(VI), yes! ...and in VG10, flat grind, that's about everything. I've seen talk about a G10 one for quite a while, Sal listens. This one should be thinner than the FRN(my only objection for the III).
Well I did one in G10 and like it a lot, but....still no flat grind:

gull wing, nice lookin' knife you got there. You say you did the G10 handles on this one? If so, how hard was it to get the pins out of the original handle?

Very nice gullwing. CF native eh? Another knife I'll have to check out once its available.

Yikes, I just found out MSRP on these CF Natives is going to be $259.95!! Of course, I'll still be getting one, and I know that street prices will be considerably less, but when most Natives are between $40 and $50 or so, that left me with a bad case of sticker shock. Wish I could say no to some knives, but alas, I CAN'T!!;)

Cheers,
Jon

I don't know how accurate that MSRP is (if it's true ), but the CF on this model feels different to most (very nice), and they're being made in limited numbers so I'm sure they're worth the extra :)

I'm fairly confident with my source for MSRP, they are usually right on the money, but I agree with you that it will definitely be worth it regardless, and like I said, we should be able to grab one for quite a bit less than that:):)

Cheers,
Jon

Figure thickness will be about the same as the CF Caly 3 and Stretch II, since the basic construction is the same: 3mm blade sandwiched between dual steel liners, covered by CF slabs. That MSRP should translate to a street price around that of the CF Caly 3 as well. Does make you wonder if this project should have been outsourced to Taiwan rather than Japan, like the Sage, which will offer CF and S30V at a significantly more attractive price.

Hi Deacon, We have one maker in Seki that is a very small "one man shop".

His quality and passion is very good, but his production capacity is limited so we have him make certain models accordingly. He used to make the now disco'd SS Native. BTW, the Native4 has a "Deacon" mid-lock-back with no dent. ;)
