Carbon fiber Native!

pdkmslf,
Pins removal were not a challenge but drilling a hardened steel blade(for new pins) are always a challenge, as well as making the new spring holder.
e-mail me if you want details.

Sal stated:

Once we feel the design refinements are accepted by the afi's (you), then we'll begin tooling an FRN version to be made in Golden. The Golden version will be made like the E4/D4 (nested skeletonized liners, 4 way clip, texture like the D4. Wal-Mart has already indicated that if they keep the Native in the line-up, they would like to change to the new Golden model when it's available. We're still a ways out on that.

sal

The interim model is VG10/CF/FFG and seki made. When, ultimately , the production is FRN and Golden what steel will be used? Will it be back to S30V, or is there another change planned? Thanks Sal, Joe

BTW, the Native4 has a "Deacon" mid-lock-back with no dent. ;)

whoo hoo! CF Native w/ a dentless lock and full flat ground VG-10
btw: nice job on that G-10 one gullwing :)

Sal,
I am so excited over this Carbon Fiber Native that my wife asked me "Who is Sal?". I had to show her many of your threads to prove that I was dreaming about this knife and not some babe named Sally. Get it to market quickly.

Hey Paul,

What is it about G-10 that you don't care for?

Texture? would polished G-10 attract you? or?

Hi Sal, in my opinion, G-10 and micarta both look their best when polished and contoured. Polished flat slabs of either are not terribly attractive, and, when textured, G-10 is downright ugly. But all of that is relative. With the exception of tortoiseshell celluloid on a Kiwi or Micro Dyad, I don't really think any "plastic", including CF, would ever attract me, more of a case of just finding some less repellent than others. ;)

I do realize that my tastes are not the norm, so I don't really expect Spyderco to change its products to suit me. The "good news" for me is that, as long as there are guys like STR, handle material is really a non-issue. If the knife is one I want in my pocket badly enough, I'm willing to pay to have it rebuild with wood, bone, stag, or ivory scales. I like the Native enough that I will have that done to at least one of the new ones.

Boye dents are a different story, have yet to find anyone who can fill one with weld. :o :D

speaking of "polished micarta", i kinda miss the linen micarta handles (esp. on gent's knives)....like that found on the "big" Calypso C54 :(

I would prefer G10 to grippy CF in working knife. I do not see any advantages of CF, only significant price increase.
Polished G10 or micarta I prefer on gents knives, which can be nice for limited run.

I'm just here to express interest in an FRN verision, with a handle color other than black, please.

Put me down for a CF Native...and an FRN Native. I am really excited about the prospect of new Natives!

A flat ground native with steel liners sounds awesome. Do you know if they'll be nested liners like the delica and endura?
