carbon steel?

Cziv, you've probably heard me say this before but....... its a factory edge, they all come dull. I haven't used a inferior edge.... I mean factory edge in 15+ years and see no need to start. Sharpen how you like and keeping it sharp is much easier. :)

Well, the Junglas didn't come with an inferior factory edge. Did you see the, now closed thread, where the guy chopped feral hogs to smithereens with one?

That's some tough dirt filled hide with muscle and bone and "swish" right through it.

The Busse full convex (V grind?) edge sucked and it should have been convexed (to the edge) as advertised and hair cutting sharp. The Junglas came with a beautiful, adjustable kydex sheath. The BWM had a nice cardboard sheath. I refuse to be swayed by the whole Busse Hog "cult" baloney.

Most of us aren't rabid sharpening hobbyists and expect a sharp blade on our $3, $4, $500 dollar knives.

Thanks for sharing your opinions though guys. :)

Huh.....?? I had a esee rat 4 and the edge wasn't anywhere near what I wanted, I had to do the exact same thing to that knife as I did to the Street Boss. Over quality and looks of the street boss blow the rat 4 out of the water. The textured handled is just incredible. If you are thinking that the factory edges on the knives you have are sharp, well, then your sharp is not the same as my sharp. Like I said the only knives I have ever gotten that did not need a touch up my me were the bark river knives and the Helle eggen. That is it, out of the other close to 100 knives (benchmades, spydercos, kershaws, rat, etc..) I have owned nothing else even came close to what I consider mirror polished sharp. Sure, some slice paper, but the edge is jagged as hell.

This is my 1st busee, I was not huge busse fan and only got the knife because of the killer deal and I got the kydex sheath with it and the fact I wanted to see what infi was all about. After I got the knife and sharpened it up to my standard (again, only 5 minutes) I would dare say that infi is everything it is made out to be, it is about the sharpest edge I have ever gotten on a knife and the edge is still pretty thick and slices better then anything else I got. It takes an edge real fast, and takes forever to lose the edge. The steel itself is worth the price, but if you hate sharpening that much then more power to you, but like I said I love sharpening my knives. What do you do when your knives go dull?

I appreciate you guys' love of Busse/kin but I shouldn't have to buy a belt sander to sharpen a new $400, full convex, 10" blade knife that came with a dull V grind. It should have come razor sharp. That's a p*ss poor showing on their part IMO. YMMV.... :thumbdn:

I agree with you about the crappy edge that Busse knives come with, but anyone who owns a high end knife should also know how to sharpen it. I understand anyone out there who invested in an expensive piece of cutlery and it comes dull, it is very frustrating I know. But anyone who owns one of these puppies should know how to sharpen a knife with a stone. Busse is one of the finest cutlery blade one can own for its ease of sharpening, good stain resistance, toughness, and most importantly maintaining a hair popping edge for a long time. None of Busse's ever came close to a belt grinder, I manually bring those things to a 25 degree per side on a 300 grit silicone stone, then 1200 grit Japanese water stone, lastly a final two stroke pass on a 2000 grit dmt diamond plate (this is by far the best push/slice edge I have experienced).

I also have 6 ESEE's to compare to (3 Junglas, 2-6's, and a 4), which I think they're fantastic. Edge wise (I hate all factory edge so I bring all my knives to the same angle, using the same process as above then give them a fare comparison). I have to say, Infi still edge out 1095 by a little.

My RC-4 shaved hair from the arm effortlessly out of the box. Maybe my idea of sharp isn't the same as yours but my knives will cut h*ll out of about any normal material - wood, cardboard, cord and other normal cutting chores.

I don't hate sharpening. I find it very relaxing and am quite good at free hand sharpening - getting mirror edges if I care to put the time into one. I do expect an expensive knife to be sharp out of the box and at most just need a stropping or a few passes on a DMT x-fine & xx-fine then the strop. Not buying belt sanders or doing stock removal.

I guess we pretty much agree with each other. "Busse knives come with a crappy edge. Infi still edge out 1095 by a little."

Carry on HOGS! :D

Hahah, I guess we do agree that the busse was a bit too thick in the edge, but my factory brand new Rat 4 was also the same way, no different. I am no hog ;), just got busse because the street boss looked good as hell and I had to have it. It was actually the 1st busse model I had taken a look at because I thought they were too expensive, but I got it for a good deal and I really think highly of the steel know and will look into purchasing more in the future. I have to get that gladius at some point and hang it in my man cave....

The Gladius is a bad mammer-jammer for sure! Very nice but out of my price range. The Street Boss is very cool - I'd like to have one, but I'm all knifed up for now. The new ZT 0551 and my Demko custom A.L. will be last knife expenditures I hope?
