"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

We were greeted yesterday with 4 foxes in our neighbor's yard. Hopefully, they don't take up residence. Not the best photos, but I was shooting through a double pane of glass, and they didn't pose for long. It looked like a vixen and her three kits.

I'm carrying an appropriate knife today.... ;)

Great shots, considering! We had a family of foxes in the field behind our house one year many years ago, but I never was able to get anything that good!

Six years ago before we left St. Louis I had one come right into our backyard.

Wolves are gettig to really be a problem in various parts of Northern California. Just this past week several cows have been found slaughtered here inModoc county where I live. It's fast becoming a shoot, shovel, shutup situation. A woman in Jess Valley hada couple in her yard the last couple weeks ago. Not good for kids waiting for the school bus in the morning.

We are having a similar issue with Bald Eagles here in PA. So many of them now, they're killing everybody's chickens and grabbing cats and small dogs.

That is interesting. Back in the 1980s to 1990s?, when they were reintroducing bald eagles to Pennsylvania, US Fish and Wildlife used to collect chicks from Saskatchewan. I flew bald eagle surveys for quite a few years to locate nests for them to take chicks from. I think they were allowed to take about 8 chicks a year. We used to fly until we had located about 40 nests.

We've had a couple more calf killings by wolves in the last few days in Jess Valley. Another example to add to Frank's @knarfeng size comparison video. A full grown man holding a full grown wolf.

I'm glad that woodsman has a gun.
I had no idea wolves are that big.

A mate of mine has a small property 30 ha..about 2 miles away. It adjoins a huge wilderness. He's had sheep killed by Dingoes and shot several including feral hybrid Dingo/ Alsatian....probably a farm dog gone bush....but this thing was big and notably had very big teeth..canines over an inch long...
Its the feral moggys that get huge...I witnessed a ginger cat in the forest at my old Mt Keira home....bigger than any house cat I've ever seen except in hunting magazines....

There used to be a marsupial cat in Queensland, I think it was. According to Heuvelmans in On the Track of Unknown Animals. [Author and title are approximations.]

I stopped briefly at the GEC Rendezvous this morning. I had to get some maple syrup delivered to Lyle. While there I looked over some knives, talked to a few familiar faces. Saw the line to buy a knife from the factory was going to take a while, so i didn't bother. I had to get back to start work by 9am. I did see Charlie @waynorth there and introduced myself to him. Overall everyone seemed in a good mood and busy busy talking knives.
