"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Brett, Belated condolences and prayers for your family. My paternal grandmother lived an active life to 100+. It was still very sad to lose her.

Paul, I dont think I would ever leave my back porch with a view that wonderful. Especially if the view includes the sunrise on sunset. Beautiful place my friend.

Thanks everyone for your kindness and thoughts. Laura is doing great and more focused on his life. She has mase sure I know my way to th hospital though. Just need one more week for full term.

Just wanted to take a moment to give a public and heartfelt thanks to John (jc57) for his very kind pm received by me some minutes ago.

John won a knife I gave away in a thread in honor of my late canine companion, Smoky, which can be viewed here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...away-(In-memory-of-quot-Smoky-quot-2003-2013)

John, informed me this morning that he has made a very generous donation to the Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue in honor of Smoky and though he didn't ask for any recognition for his kindness, I felt it deserved mention so that others (who may not know) would learn what often goes unseen and unheard behind the scenes on these forums.

Thank you, John. You have touched both me and my wife deeply with your thoughtful and generous gesture.

Just got off the phone with Jerry Halfrich. He sounded in good spirits and is working hard trying to get their home, business and lives back on track. It'll be a long process but they are making progress. Jerry wanted to let folks know how much he and Janice appreciate the good wishes expressed here.

Thanks for the update, Elliott! I'm happy to hear things are on the upswing for them.

Okay, I was looking at moving from Maryland to either the gold coast of Florida or the Austin/San Antonio area of Texas. Well, now Karen's second sister, her youngest, is moving back to Texas to the Georgetown area, so Florida is becoming a lost dream. Karen wants to be near her sisters, and I can't really blame her. I wasn't really taken with the Gergetown area when we were there a year and a half ago, so I'm now looking down around New Braunfels and northern San Antonio area. Leaning a lot towards San Antone, as I've spent time there in the past at Ft. Sam Houston. Not too far from the gulf for fishing and beach going, close enough that Karen can drive up to see her sisters anytime she wants. Just far enough that I can keep clear of the gathering of hens.:)

So, what members do we have here that live in the San Antonio area and can advise me what parts of town to keep away from? I remember the south side being a bit dicy, but it's been many years since I've been there. Wondering how much has changed?

Leaving Thursday morning using my truck to haul Sister Romelie's stuff down to Georgetown, so I'll be spending next week around there looking at housing. Karen's sister Diane's house in Georgetown will be the base of operations while in Texas, so San Antone will be day trips.

I told Karen I ain't wearing big hats or pointy toe boots!

They got head boats out of Corpus Christi?

Jack I wish I could help. My wife's family is from Houston and she has relatives all over TX but none in that area. I do know they all love it and are extremely proud to be Texans. Hope your move and transition goes well. Also, that the culture shock is kind and short lived.

All the best

So I had my BF knife on the bathroom counter earlier and my daughter, who is a few months over two, came walking up with it. She has been speaking really well lately and as walked up, she handed me the knife and said, "Here go dadda." I thanked her and put in my pocket. She then said, "Where knife go?" She learned the word "knife" around 6 months ago. :D

Man, people aren't joking when they say they grow up fast!

Brett, they learn fast. My two grandkids ( 3 and 5) already know who to call on when something needs opening or cutting.

My youngest turns 12 in a few days. Both he and his brothers have knives already-the younger two a jnr Mora and a couple of RRs.One of which is in the land of the lost at present.
Peter asked me specifically for "one of those large opening knives that sticks open like your ones" meaning a lockback.
So I got him this-USA Schrade 6OT and I'll throw in the leather Schrade belt pouch because ..well just because-yknow.

Anyone have Kevin's (richstag) contact info? I tried PMing him, but his inbox is full and he disabled his email and VM option. I'd aappreciate it if someone could ask him to drop me a line. Thanks.

This will help us win the cricket. Actually, hold up, I don't think we need any help.:D
Thats a LARP (live action role play-remember when you were a kid and played war outside? same thing ) sword he made himself and quite a lot of effort went into it. Any out door activity that isn't computer based is good AFAIC.

Hope your young 'un has a great birthday Meako  Great pics :)

Laura's Pa Pa(Grandfather) had a stroke a last night and passed. He was 90 and lived a humble and good life. Laura took the news bravely, but I am sure it is because we are away from home for my sister's wedding. And, she does't want to induce early labor. One of the best compliments I have have ever received is when my brother in law said I reminded him of Pa Pa. That stuck with me a drove me to actually be more like him.

Im not sure how often I be able to get on the forum in the coming days but thank you for your thoughts and prayers. May we all live a good of life that he lived. One that was simple, caring, humble, and family driven.

My condolences to you and your family.

Take care.

Cate
