"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

For some reason it was impossible to submit the previous post when this was included, but on its own it works .

I've just been having the same problem posting in another thread :grumpy:

That's another very interesting pic

Great looking scenery, my friend. Thanks for sharing this part of Europe. :)

I´m glad the Trapper is working fine for you.

If I had to carve graves out of rock, I'd introduce the burn and scatter, or bake and shake, system of disposal.
Beautiful pictures. I have to see Europe again before I die.
So if I never go back I'll live forever. Tough choice.

Absolutely fantastic photos, sturzi!!:thumbup: Thanks for sharing them with us! :)

There are some impressive caves in these limestone mountains.

Now it's just a couple of days back to Switzerland.
...
2200 kilometers and 25000 meters of altitude, now I'm back at work resting my legs :).

That looks like a bunch of strange little people!!:eek::p
I think I need to rest my legs just from looking at the photos of your splendid trip! :D:D

Great photos, sturzi. Awesome countryside.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, unfortunately three weeks fly by way too fast, there's just so much to see...

Wow Sturzi, those pics are fantastic, what a great journey, looks like you travelled pretty light my friend

Well, I still carried around about 15-20 kg of stuff (a lot of it food and water :)), if I'd have slept in hostels it would have been much lighter.

Great looking scenery, my friend. Thanks for sharing this part of Europe. :)

I´m glad the Trapper is working fine for you.

That trapper is just the perfect food knife, thanks again :).

You can even see the small children's graves, I guess those were a bit cheaper :).

Ok, so I posted this pic in the daily totin' thread, but I put it here to tell the back story about the autographed Ted Williams Baseball.

As a young lad growing up in the late '50's and early '60's, I would attend a lot of Boston Red Sox games as well as the Boston Patriots (yes they were the Boston Patriots then) with grandpa. As with most youngsters, we all had our heroes of the diamond. Ted Williams was one of mine. During attendance of one of his later games at Fenway Park, grandpa caught one of Ted's foul balls and of course it immediately went in my glove that I brought to every game. My brother and I played Little League Baseball and a few years after acquiring that foul ball, we attended Ted Williams Baseball Camp for two weeks. It was not far from our home. Ted had since retired from his baseball career. We saw him a couple times while at camp, so I brought the ball in my bag every day in the hopes of getting his autograph. The holy grail for an admiring young baseball fan. I finally had an opportune moment as he was leaving his office. I politely asked him for an autograph on the ball. Now Ted was quite known for being very abrasive towards media and just in general. When I asked him for the autograph, he grumbled something incoherent along with a few choice words that weren't appropriate in front of a kid and knocked the ball out of my hand. The guy he was with picked up the ball and said something in Ted's ear. Ted signed the ball and tossed it to me without saying anything else and continued to his waiting car. I was so mad, I wanted to bean him off the back of his head with the ball. But of course I didn't. I just got a shrug and an apologetic look from Ted' partner.
But anyways, I've hung onto the ball all these years and despite Ted's abrasive manners, I remained in awe of seeing him in replays in the batters box. It also reminds me of all the outings with grandpa.

Fascinating tale Bob, thanks for posting it here

HAHA oh man Bob. Glad for Ted's teammate but I woulda beaned him right there. Tbh I think you should have ;) Would have been a second story to tell "Hey did I ever tell you about that time I beaned Ted Williams with his own signed ball."

On a side note, my bosses' kid met Rondo of the Boston Celtics (More recent player/'star'), they were at dinner and this is a wee little kid, Rondo is his 'idol'. He then proceeds to try to ask Rondo after he finished his meal for an autograph and Rondo just waves him off with his hand and gives him a stern 'No autographs go away kid'. Broke his heart apparently.

I'm envious you got to go to fenway all the time with your grandfather, hope you've been keeping that candle burning with your grandson :)

Oh yeah. I take my grandson as often as I can. He likes the Football games better though and that's okay with me. :D

Hiking in the Shenandoah National Park yesterday.

Bear scat on the trail.

Hope to get back to that spot during peak colors this Autumn.

That baseball is a fantastic souvenir and "memory jogger", Bob!:thumbup: Great story about getting the ball signed, and, although the experience wasn't enjoyable for you as a kid, from MY selfish perspective, I'm kinda glad your story is consistent with the "abrasive" part of the legend of "Teddy Ballgame". :D

FWIW, my first ball glove was a Ted Williams model from Sears when I was 7 years old; I used it until I got a new one in high school (and sadly have no idea what happened to the old one :(). Also, I have a baseball signed by my hero Al Kaline of the Detroit Tigers, but it's not nearly as cool as yours; my wife got mine at some school fund-raising auction when I was closing in on 40 years old, and it wasn't a foul ball Kaline hit at the actual ball park, just one of hundreds he probably signed to be passed out to his adoring public.

Well, the big day will arrive in the morning at 8am. :D

My wife was due the third, last time we were two weeks late, but tomorrow we are going to induce labor. I'll have another beautiful lil girl, God willing, this time tomorrow possibly, and Im getting excited. :D

Docs say everything looks great. We are bracing ourselves however for news that Aubrey, the one coming, may have Glanzmann's, like her sister, but either way we're ready.

Ive joked with Laura that she has to wait till the 2nd at least because I can't find a knife serialized #1 :D Im not a knife nut. Nope, not at all.

Thanks for any prayers/thoughts.

I never thought seeing two car seats in the backseat would be so cool. :)
