"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Going in for the other eye tomorrow morning and will be quiet for a day or two.

Goodluck Gus, hope you heal quickly...is the aftermath kind of itchy? I've had welder flash to the eyes and metal sparks hit and I know the healing from that is unpleasantly "itchy" is the only way to describe it.

I dunno how many of you guys use facebook, but thought it'd be nice to have a spot on there to get connected:

What do you Traditional Guys listen to?

I play blues harmonica semi professionally (not for a living, but not for free either), so naturally, I listen to a lot of blues. But I'm heavily into classic, outlaw and alt country. Everything from Hank Williams to Willie and Waylon, to Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Robert Earl Keen. I mostly dig anything rootsy, including some zydeco and cajun music. Also, some jazz from the 50s and 60s.

Any air gun shooters here?

Not being able to go to my weekly, let alone twice weekly shooting range trips, I think the airguns off the back deck have saved my sanity over this period of being incapacitated on crutches.:grumpy: My old Beeman Webley Tempast has seen a lot of use these past days, as has my Webley Hurricane. I don't know how many .177 pellets I've been through, but I have a few empty cans around now. The old Sheridan blue streak has seen some shooting as well. The beer can on the stick by the woodpile is getting a bit ragged. Amazing how an air gun still keeps the holy trinity of sight picture, breath control, and trigger squeeze in tune.

Any port in a storm, I guess. :D

Carl.

Carl, about a year and a half ago Cabelas had a sale and I jumped on one of those Gamo Whisper .177 piston guns with the silencer and 3-9 scope as a package deal. I've been pretty impressed with the accuracy, but was a little disappointed that it wouldn't kill a big 'coon with a head shot from 15 yards. 1200 fps sounds pretty good, but they won't penetrate (too little pellet weight). I went back to the .22 rimfire with CB caps (29 gr bullet @ 725 fps) and it drops 'em in their tracks. We have a creek and woods behind our house, and the little masked bandits have been quite a nuisance around the trash cans.

Does plinking shots off at a can on a piece of bar with a red ryder BB? count? I would like to get a .22 break action in the higher FPS range.

Carl. We have reached the end of the damn cold of 6 mounth winter period. The breathing, aiming and squesing trigger automatic has to be regained again. I mostly start with houndreds of shoots with my Diana mod 35. I have a 3-9 scope on it. I also enjoy my Anchutz 22 and Heym 6.5X55. Since I got sons old enough to start trying to shoot the airgun has become very nice to have again. My Diana shoots very good and tight so its interesting to use. We also uses my wifes Biathlon rifle with diopter.

If anyone from the St. Louis area is interested in attending the BLADE Show in Atlanta this summer, please PM me if you would like to share costs and accomodations. I have a rental car and a hotel room (within walking distance) already reserved. I plan to leave early AM on Thursday, June 9th, and drive straight through with minimal breaks to arrive at the hotel before 5 pm in order to enjoy the pre-show festivities. The show then runs Friday through Sunday. Leaving for home on Sunday when we've seen as much as we want to see.

Wow, Bosse, you have some nice guns! I always wanted to try an Anchutz. The ones I've looked at have been beautiful. Since they are the choice of most Olympic shooters, they must shoot as nice as they look.

Six months of winter? Man, I couldn't hardly stand the 5 month wimpy winter we have here. You're a braver man than me.

Carl.

I'm way excited: semi-drunk ordered the Tidioute conductor pattern in tortoise scales that I've been hankerin for these past few weeks.

Looking forward to the tortoisey goodness.

Hoping everybody survived the furious weather systems wreaking havoc around the country.

We had really bad storms and high wind but fortunately nothing more serious than downed limbs and water in the garage.

Hope you all had even less aggravation than that.

My wife was on tornado watch in Northern KS but she lives in a basement apartment that also has a storm room so its a winner for safety...kinda wish I was over already, I have a strange fascination with Tornadoes and would like to see one (preferably from far away).

Stay safe guys!

Having seen one in the relatively near distance while riding my motorcycle in Louisiana some years back, I'll happily let others "chase" them.

I'll probably feel the same way if I see one...I do find the destructive forces of nature very interesting though.

Great looking catch Ash. :)

Hi,

Holy Mackerel! I go and get busy for a few weeks and come back to this? I hope the state of the forum is OK. I'll get used to it, but it's going to take a little bourbon to ease the transition.:)

I guess I need to check out the new digs.

Dale

Was going to say, Nice fish Ash! Still waiting for the water to get a bit softer here.

Way to go, Ash!:thumbup::thumbup:

What did ya get him on? Inquiring minds want to know.

More importantly, what are ya gonna clean him with?:D

Carl.

A Mister Twister

As weird as it might sound I hate fish. I love to catch them but I always release them.
