Carpenter Park Hike IV (Extremely Photo Heavy)

By the way, Carpenter Park is 424 acres, and the adjoining Gurgen's Park is another 270.

Superb! Love the scenery, TheWarrior. Autumn is an awesome time o' year. Every day outside is different, a variety of colours everywhere and your pics definitely demonstrate just that.
Dual wielding the 14s is a great idea, I love that little blade. 't Was my gateway Becker and I love seeing it in gear/edc packs of others. Do you notice any difference between the laser etched vs. the older stamped one? I've been wondering that there's only a cosmetical difference, or a performance difference as well.
Your meal looked great as well. Can't go wrong with broccoli, pasta and chicken. I'm sure you loved your trip!

EDIT: is the emberlit the Ti version, or SS? I'm still in doubt about either one, or maybe the bushbox.

Thanks man. Love getting out in the Fall. The orange handled 14 is my wifes. I used to have a roll stamped one, but sold it, then won this one in a contest. I don't notice any difference at all.

The Emberlit is the Ti version. I actually ordered the ss version, and they shipped the Ti one. I let them know, and they said they realized their mistake, and told me to keep it. I may order an ss version for a kit I'm making for my truck.

It's a lot of fun man. I used to take my son camping, but not really hiking. That a more recent thang we started doing.

It's a nice place man. If you keep walking westward, and go across the tracks, there's Jurgen's Park. Carpenter is actually prettier though. I earned every one of those grey hairs, haha.

It's right behind Riverside Park right? Or are they actually the same park?

Yep, on the other side of the river from Riverside Park. North of it. You turn off Peoria Rd, into The Rail golf course. Go up just a little, and you'll see the Carpenter Park sign on the left.

Thanks for the info! Any reason you bought the emberlit over other models? I'm curious. The only stvove-like thing I have here is an Esbit pocket stove. Works ok, but those Emberlit and Bushbox stoves look more practical.

I had a Vargo, but was recommended the Emberlit, so sold the Vargo without using it, and got the Emberlit. I love that thing man. Fuel is available most anywhere, so you don't have to carry alcohol or gas. Very lightweight, and works great.

I about fell over when I saw where you're talking about. My name has been carved in the cliffs for years. :) Watch Riverside, and Carpenters both, folks. More than a few fellas looking for another fella drive those. Great photos.

Ok, dude... this is what I want, and will accept nothing less. I want you to start making slide-show vids out of your photos. They are that damn good. Put some background music in, and narrate the whole thing. I'd watch. Just saying. Not many can make ME jealous with an outing.

My wife was telling me the same thing. I haven't seen that at all now. Mostly, it's couples walking their dogs.

Thanks man, appreciate it. Too much work for me. I already take hundreds of photos, upload them when I get home, decide which ones I want to use while telling the story in my head, resize them, correct the colors and what not in GIMP, upload to photobucket, type my story on notepad, adding the photo codes, then starting the thread here. That's enough, haha. Quite honestly, when I look at a thread, I much prefer to look at photos, versus a video, or slide show. YMMV.

good stuff, warrior! i like that lunch box's lid - much more usable than the one msr one. what's the capacity - around 900 ml?

I really love all the pics, but #6 in post one was my favorite! Such a beautiful place, except what was that thorny thing?! That looks terrifying!

Beautiful time of year to be out and about. Thanks for taking us on a walk. Food looked good too.

Thanks. I liked that one too. The sun in the background made the trees look almost black. Not sure what kind of tree has the thorns on it.

Thanks man. We have a lot of fun on our hikes. Love getting out and getting to use the knives/equipment.

I have been waiting to take a peek until I had time to savor it...... As usual I am glad to take the time for you always deliver a delectable feast for the eyes...... Loved the locomotive shot and the stove series too....... Things are just beginning to turn here and your post reminded me of the treats to come...... Thank you......

Ethan

P.s....... I am almost certain that the tree you had a question about is a river birch....... Although the bark appears to be very similar to the most excellent paper birch I have had marginal luck with it as a fire starting aid....... I probably should do some more experimenting....... Pretty tree though...... E

Thanks Ethan. I do believe you are correct about the river birch. I looked it up, and the leaves, as well as the bark, matches up. I was aware there's such a thing as a paper bark maple, but clearly those aren't maple leaves. I wish I would have gathered some of the various materials and tried them out. I already had the cedar bark in the tin, so I went with it. Does the paper birch just smolder, and not flame up? Makes me want to go back and get some just to try it out.

Hah, I did the same as Uncle E...finally got a moment to sit without distractions. Love looking over your shoulder and scoping out your gear. Keepem comin' brother and thanks for sharing!
