Carry two lights?

I carry a Fenix 1xCR123 on my belt, and used to carry a Fenix AAA on my keys as a "trapped in an elevator all night" emergency backup. I then figured out that the screen on my Blackberry Curve gave off enough light to navigate in an emergency, so I ditched the Fenix AAA on my keys.

I'd rather have a backup light than a backup knife, because I'd rather be without a knife when I really need one than be without a light when I need one.

Best way to avoid either scenario is to never be without a knife or a light.

If you only have one and it dies for some reason, you screwed. 2 is 1, 1 is none. Always good to have a backup. There are so many bright tiny lights out there. Theres no reason not to have a couple on you. :)

Another reason to carry a second light instead of batteries. Swapping batteries in a "stressful" or rushed situation dose not work out so well.

I live by the 3 is 2, 2 is one, and the one is none principal. That is why I carry more than 1 flashlight.

i carry the small one on the right everywhere. it's useful indoors because of the lower brightness settings and fairly floody beam.

i also carry the one in the middle because it's twice as bright as the small one, throws a bright beam pretty well, and simple to use mode: either high or medium. i use this for outdoor and walking the dog.

the one on the left, i just use for fun :D

I tend to use my light more than my knives. That being said, I prefer to keep as little stuff on me at any given time. I carry a Fenix PD20 and the only other light I would consider carrying is a small keychain light. The extra light, if it doesn't make any difference to carry is a pretty good idea just in case the primary light fails. I've dropped my keys in a dark parking lot once before and it was no fun looking for it for 30 minutes. I can probably improvise if I don't have a blade on me, but I can't improvise very much if I need a light.

Ah I just wrote a nice long post with a good story and everything, but my computer ate it so what he said.

How would you carry the spare batteries without them getting damaged, shorted or otherwise discharged? Obvious answer, carry them in another flashlight. It also covers the spare lamp in case of damage, allows for light from multiple directions to eliminate shadows when you're working, lets you split up to search faster (since the other person never has a flashlight of their own) and a few other advantages I can think of. But I'm one of those people who uses a flashlight every day. Not quite as often as I use a knife, but close.

It really was a good post with a funny story, really it was.

I keep a Fenix E01 on my keychain and it gets used daily. If I had room I would always have my Surefire G2 on me as well but it's really not necessary. Sometimes the G2 will go in my pack or I'll just drop it in my pocket while at home. (It's fun for lighting up the tree line in the back yard.)

I usually have at least three lights on my person or at least in my bag at work, which is within a couple feet of me most of the time. My typical EDC when I'm out and about is the Photon Microlight on my keychain, an Arc AAA-P on a titanium chain around my neck, and a Surefire L1 in my pocket. I usually have a CountyComm Maratac AAA light on my person as well.

I've had batteries die, bulbs blow, LED circuits fail or break in a fall, and these kinds of things usually happen at the worst times, namely in the dark when I'm using the light. I also keep lithium cells in all of my lights that take them, and most of my lights are AA, AAA, or 123 cell powered.

I carry my Haiku, around my neck I have on a Ti, chain a Ti. Wee, and I keep a McGizmo Sapphire on my keys.

Lately I have been carrying a maratac aaa for daily use, and it does get used every day. I also have an arc-p on the keychain with a lithium aaa cell - this is for backup and normally does not get used. They are both tiny, so easy enough to carry. If I am going to be outdoors at night, I will take a more powerful light.

I EDC a Fenix P1D Premium in my pocket, and a Fenix E01 ($12.50 Amazon) on my keychain. The P1D uses CR123 and the EO1 a AAA battery. For most everyday use while at home and in the office, I find it much easier to grab my keychain EO1 which provides adequate light for these type activities. Also, cheapter to replace battery in EO1. The P1D is the light I go for when outside at night, and other times when I want a lot of light. The two "accent" each other well, and a backup isn't a bad idea either.

Depends on what you need. As a CCO I carry a small LED Lenser on my duty belt 24x7, useful for searching in confined spaces. On night duty I also carry a Maglite with Malkoff insert, as well as another lowlight red lens LED for when I don't want to destroy my night vision. Also if a flashlight dies during a walkaround (happens) I don't want to be troubleshooting it - and definitely don't want to be caught without a working flashlight if the SHTF. Anyway, carrying 5 spare batteries for a Maglite is a lot less practicable than a 3xAAA LED Lenser. And there's been many a time I've lent a spare to one of my colleagues during a walkaround when their flashlight died.

On the boat I have a floating Dolphin as well as a smaller handheld/mouth-held LED, and/or headlamp. In the car I carry a flashing LED triangle for breakdowns as well as another Dolphin and at least one handheld.

In the house I have at least 2 handhelds as well as a Coleman battery lantern - I live in a country town that gets a lot of blackouts and I don't like using candles - lady acquaintance of mine was killed in a housefire from using candles

That happens to me often. Tip for young players- write your message in notepad and copy-paste it into your browser, same with email.

I'll often carry two or three flashlights:
* an Arc-AAA on my keychain - my main flashlight, honestly it's all I need 95% of the time. Like everything, it's reliable with maintenance (every few months)
* a red Photon3 on my keychain - could probably ditch it, but it's not exactly heavy, adjustable levels of low-light
* a Fenix L1D AA flashlight - when it's night and I know I'm going to be outside, or at work

What I don't understand is why people carry 3+ knives! Maybe other people live in the wilderness and skin animals to survive, but I've gone from various folders carried IWB for years, to just a multitool in my `2nd-line gear'. It amazes me when I read the EDC threads, it's like some people carry a multitool, two folders, a pen knife, a rambo knife, ten shurikens, and a katana, just to mow the lawn!

What a great topic for the General KNIFE Discussion!
I'm going to move it to Gadgets & Gear just to confuse everyone ...
