Hey. I know some of you carry fixed blades all the time. Well I work for a loan company and we are not really allowed knives by super said my folder is fine. But I really want a SHTF small fixed for my car. For when I have to knock on people's door and ask for payment. Any suggestions at <100?

Last time I did any door to door collection action I took my Doberman with me. Didn't last at that job long!:D--KV

Well it's not really like that. I stay in my office until I have to go knock on the door. And I have to go where I'm nervous about large dogs coming out of no where. Usually dogs don't bother me. But a lot of the ones that I don't know and are snarling next to the door do.

The problem with defending your self with a knife is you need to be close enough to the threat to defend your self with a knife. I would get a CCW if I were you (and I have!). Even a cane or baseball bat would be better than a knife for defense.

That said, for your price range there are tons of options! Since it doesn't sound like you will likely use this knife much I would just buy something that you like the looks of. Becker or Esee would be the places I would look. I have a couple beater SOGs that I use a lot around the house and yard. The Seal Team in particular.

If you want a small knife...i.e..3 to five inch blade, then I would recommend either Esee or Becker. Izula II, Bk11, BK 2, Bk16, Esee 3. ESEE 4, or Esee 5. Check out my reviews on the bk11. Also, I will never suggest a knife for self defense, its just not practical.

And just to quote what you said.

So you aren't really allowed to carry a knife but a folder is fine. You can't carry a gun because they search you car. Yet, you want a fixed blade you aren't allowed to have for your car that they will search. Does this make sense?

Check out the Guardian3 by Bradford knives

An excellent knife. I have two and edc one regularly. Unfortunately it is outside the supposed budget and if I thought it might be confiscated I would hate to lose it. Also not that good for SD as any knife is. Gun, pepper spray, cane, baseball bat. All are better for SD.

It does sound complicated. If you can conceal a small fixed blade you sure as hell can conceal pepper spray. Also, pepper spray is non-lethal.

Might be time to consider a different place of employment. Even crappy fast food jobs treat you with more respect than It sounds like what you put up with. When I was your age and working through college, I edc'd a butterfly knife in my pocket and a fixed blade strapped to my leg.

Well man I make 10.50 an hour out here and that's the best job around. Maybe a knife that's clipped in the waistband? I wear a lot of polo shirts.

Answer this question, how are you going to explain your defending yourself with whatever type weapon you have at the time ? You're collecting funds, not serving a warrant, you can always run !!!

But they are fine with a fixed blade? You said earlier they aren't fine with it. This isn't adding up.

Sadly...I think you have nailed it. To many things in too many threads by this guy aren't adding up.

I'm going on record and will live with the consequences.

And? Because I'm into them doesn't mean I can't benefit from experiance. Just because I think something doesn't mean I want to risk my job and career without getting more than one opinion. And I don't have access to an arc welder or the materials at the moment. Anything else? Didn't think so. Thanks

There is more. Think again.

That said, enjoy your experience at BladeForums. I'm out.

How would a knife in your car be of any help if you are attacked on the job? If you're at the persons door, or in their home, or anywhere outside of your car when you are attacked, I doubt that your attacker is going to be nice enough to stop so you can go get your knife.

Personally, if I thought I needed a weapon at work to protect me from being assaulted or murdered, I'd get a different job. My life is worth a lot more to me than $10.50 an hour.

Heck, if you are caught violating company weapons policy by having a knife in your car that you're not supposed to have, you'll probably be fired anyways. So why not avoid the whole mess and seek employment elsewhere.

Bizarre thread.
