So, yesterday I get home with Lily, and she runs down to the playset to hang out with the other kids. (Lily is my 3 year old (my youngest)). A bit later I went to check on em, and they'd gone down into the woods. They answered my call that Lily wouldn't come back, so I trudged down there to handle my little tyrant. But when I got there she was sitting on a girls lap and I could tell this wasn't a tantrum. She'd fallen and hurt her leg. She's not my dramatic one, but she wasn't having any touching or moving of the leg, and I could tell she was hurting.

The woods there are steep, and she'd crossed the creek and gone up the opposite incline 30 or so feet. Turns out she'd gotten up there and been scared, and when the older girl tried to carry her out, she fell, and the leg got hurt in the fall. So now I started looking at the terrain wondering if I could make it out without falling myself. Its scrambly kinda territory there, and I'd tweaked my back on Sunday, so I was a bit stiff.

Just picking her up was tough on her. She was really hurting. I could tell that this leg was likely broken. It was one of the most nervewracking 100 or so yards I've ever traveled. Luckily I had brand new running shoes on, and they held the terrain well. I was thanking the lucky stars when we got to the top, and into my back yard. Atlanta is blessed with an excellent childrens hospital, and they confirmed the broken Tibia and casted the leg. She's suffering like hell today.

Just an update.

I hope your little lady feels better soon. Breaking a leg that young, she will mend quick.

I have a 3 yo daughter also, I feel for you ! FWIW, Ice for the first 24 - 48 hours, then apply heat to her leg to help with pain and speed healing. You can place the (sealed) ice on the cast, and the heating pad above the cast. Also decorate her cast, have everyone sign and draw on it, she will like that and it won’t be such a burden.

Sorry to hear that Andy. Kids are damned tough though. She'll bounce back before you would if you bruised your leg. I take it she's getting lots of ice cream?

That's always tough. My daughter was 5 when she broke her upper arm...I think I hurt more than she did! Thoughts and prayers for quick recovery!

Not good.

Seriously not good.

This is when a father feels most helpless.

Hang in, Andy. Kids are made of gum rubber. You'll remember much longer than she will.

I just went through that with my 4 year old boy 2 weeks ago. He was horse playing with his little brother and broke his arm falling off the bed. My wife and I ran every light getting to the emergency room! It hurts knowing that your babies are in pain.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that Andy. Best wishes for her speedy recovery. Fortunately kids knit fast. Keep us posted.

Holy smokes, Andy, I'm sorry to hear that. I've got four little girls and a boy and I can't imagine how much that must hurt you to watch your baby hurt. I rolled Evelyn's wrist up in the truck window awhile back and I nearly died when I realized what had happened. I'm so sorry your little girl is hurt. My kids and I will include y'all in our prayer's tonight.

Oh Man Andy, I am so sorry to hear of this.

I hope she is on the mend ASAP and out of pain even quicker.

In the meantime, I will keep Lily in my thoughts.

Wow Andy, I'm sure that was hard on you to see your little girl hurting like that. My boy turns 3 in a few more days and I can't imagine him breaking a bone. Just think, no matter how old she get's, you'll never stop worrying about her. :)
I hope she recovers quickly.

I very much appreciate all the prayers guys. The neighborhood has really come through bringing lots of care packages. Unfortunately, daddy ate the brownies...

Sorry to hear about Lily's fall Andy. I can imagine the stress you felt in the heat of the moment as my heart skips a beat whenever the smallest thing happens to Bailey. I'll pray for you, her and a speedy recovery.

Take care, Dad. Take a few deep breaths and remember to say your prayers tonight.

Little kids do seem to heal up pretty good. Maybe she can help you sand handles while she mends. ;)

Very sorry to hear, Andy. It won't be long and you won't be able to keep up with her--even in a cast.

Wow Bro! I pray for a speedy recovery, for her poor little leg and your frazzled Daddy nerves. Nothing is as scary as one of your children being sick or wounded.
