Carrying Multiple Knives

From the EDC thread, it seems that many people carry up to 3 or 4 knives at a time. I understand having one locking blade and one multitool, which is what I carry, but what do you do with so many knives carried at once? or is it just for the love of knives?

well me, if i carry a second its to protect my favorite EDC from loaning and such :-D

I work in an office environment and people (sheeple) there are pretty squeemish about knives. I tend to only carry my case canoe on a daily basis, but my Mini-grip stays in the car along with a multi-tool.

4 knives:
1. for dirty work - utility, this one will be used and will get dull
2. for food - this one only ever touches food
3. the multi-tool - this one usually has a blade of crappy steel (yes, I'm a bit of a steel snob) or has an undesirable blade shape
4. for disaster - this one I always carry but never use, so it stays sharp

Primary EDC: Mini Grip or Native
Backup (offhand): whichever of the above is not primary that day
Multi-tool: Vic Compact, or LM wave for heavier jobs
Fixed: Becker Necker or Ray Laconico Cricket
Keychain: Vic Classic, and Swisstech keychain tool

yeah go BIG BLUE WRECHING CREW.
One for heavy use BMHK14205
One with P/S blade small reg. sebbie
and a mulitool LM charge.
this is a work day carry.

off work it's a Small Sebenza Classic w/Micarta Inlay or Spyderco caly 3 Zdp

As my uncle who was a sniper in Vietnam told me, "carry three, cause someone might want to take one away from you"....

I often carry 3-4 knives at a time, but not for any other reason than I have a hard time picking just one to carry each day, so I just pocket several. :o

I almost always have at least three knives on me.... I carry a necker, which never gets used. I carry a fixed belt knife for heavy jobs, and a large folder, usually a lockback SAK, for the extra blade and tools.

Often I also have a plain folder in my pocket, like an Opinel or a Case folder to loan to people.

I have my Victorinox on my keys and my Kershaw Blur in my pocket.

Hmmmm.... another question:

Mostly everyone here carries a knife around, and knife laws usually require a pocket clip so that the knife can be seen. But how many of you actually use the pocket clip? I usually just keep my blur in my pocket. It's not like a cop would pull you over just to check your pockets, and I also don't think anybody I'm around wants to wonder why i have a knife on me.

So do you guys use the pocket clip or just pocket that thang?

I juggle mine.

I carry an SAK because I am constantly needing the non-knife parts of it, and it's a heck of a slicer.

I carry a cheapie folder for rough chores and to loan to others. Others are usually idiots.

I carry a fixed blade because I can.

I usually carry a big one, a small one, and a multi tool.
The small one is for use around sheeple and to loan when necessary.
The big one is for those who know I have it and are not afraid of either it or me.
A lot of folks at work know I am a blade nut, and know I have the big one.
It is kind of like a don't ask, don't tell policy.:D
Biggest we are "allowed is 6 inches overall. Yet every day I have one that has a 6 inch handle, and 4.75 blade. I just do not whip it out very often, only around those that appreciate the thing.

Been trying to downsize - so went from a K'shaw Boa to a benchmade 705 in my watchpocket and a Crawford/CRKT pliers knife in my lineman's pouch. reasonably discrete when you aren't using it and when you are most people will realize it's a tool -'cause that's the way you're using 'em. And I'll probably go back to something in the 5" closed catagory -because those really do it all.

I carry two, sometimes three depending on my mood. I always have a SAK, usually a Soldier. Then I always have a traditional slippie like Case or Great Eastern just because I love them so. And sometimes, if I'm in the mood, I'll throw my Benchmade 707 in the pocket as well. For me, as the original poster ventured, it's just for the pure love of them.
