Carrying Multiple Knives

Back when I carried 2, my loaner knife and my sheeple knife were the same; BM Mini Grip. These days I mostly just tout my Sebbie; I figure it's friendly enough.

Mostly everyone here carries a knife around, and knife laws usually require a pocket clip so that the knife can be seen. But how many of you actually use the pocket clip? I usually just keep my blur in my pocket. It's not like a cop would pull you over just to check your pockets, and I also don't think anybody I'm around wants to wonder why i have a knife on me.

Just a note, according to a friend of mine (who's a police officer), the above isn't actually generally accurate.

As I was told, in most places a small knife (i.e. pocket knife, subject to length limitations, usually among many other things) is not considered a weapon, so may be carried concealed (in a pocket), and is not subject to concealed weapon laws provided it's not being used or claimed to be a weapon. Additionally, a knife with a pocket clip, unless it is worn with the knife outside the pocket, and the clip inside, is not considered to be in plain sight, and will be considered concealed (legally, though, provided it isn't considered a weapon by law). For something to not be considered concealed, it has to be really visible. Even wearing a knife in a belt sheath will be considered concealed if you put a jacket on, which covers it (just a normal average jacket).

The guys on the legal forum can probably provide more details, if desired.

Yeah that's what I figured. Like my pocket knife, or knives under 2" usaully seem legal in all arenas. But my question wasn't "is it illegal" it was, "do you use the pocket clip, or just 'illegaly conceal' it?"

But thanks for the info :D

I rotate a EDC tactical knife currently a Emerson Super CQC-7 Wave. For the sheeple I rotate a classic looking Case knife currently a 6.5 Bone Stage Peanut. On my key chain always have the LM Micra. I love the Case XX family of knives...I can't stop polishing the nickle silver bolsters and brass liners I keep it looking pretty.

Be careful with these statements as it changes from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Here in Canada there are no concealment nor carry laws provided you are not in possession of a prohibited weapon, otherwise all knives are tools. This means you can legally carry a sword down the street!! Of course once you threaten to use it on a person it becomes a weapon and is illegally carried. The town of Calgary passed a bylaw that requires one to conceal knives carried or risk a fine, although I have not heard of any law abiding citizen charged with carrying using the pocket clip.

1 mini SAK (6 bladed Manager) for paper and very fine cutting, 1 nice blade (CRK Mnandi) for food, and 1 large multi-tool (Leatherman Wave) for heavy duty stuff.

I used to carry up to 3 knives but it seemed a bit excessive. Now I only carry one. Usually it is a SAK or some other small slipjoint pocket knife.

I carry my Bump with me everywhere (except school, when it lives in my car) in the back right pocket of my pants (I have a small wallet, and in a front pocket I have trouble getting my phone out) and when I'm exercising I clip it at 1 o'clock on my shorts. works great, and it doesn't flop around nearly as much as in the pocket, which is uncomfortable and drives me nuts.

for heavy days I'll toss my gerber multitool on my belt (Am I the only one on the forums who feels that gerber is better than LM? I have both, and when I took over my gerber from my dad, instead of using the LM, he bought himself a new gerber. No more LMs for us!)

I keep a smallish slipjoint in one pocket and my Alox Soldier in the other. I use the Slipjoint as my main cutting tool because I like it so much and I use my SAK for the non-knife related tasks and for harder cutting. When I go into the bush, I take along a Mora that sees most of the cutting I do, I really love those knives. If I have two knives on me, I never feel underknifed or lacking in that category, but I have on occasions been fidgeting with a knife and I carry it with me just to play with, which on some days would bump me up to three. I especially like the kershaw speedsafe models for those instances.

Yep I usually have 2 folders & a mini tool on my keys. My Spyderco ATR in my RFP which no one but me uses, A CRKT M16 in my left waistband this is a loner/hard use knife and there is a Leatherman Micro Scissor on my keys.

I usually only carry one primary folder (in the pocket) and a multitool (in the bag). Today is a little different because I just got a new knife and I'm not sure how much I like it yet, so I'm carrying another one that I know I like (I don't do this very often at all).

i sometimes carry multi knives plus a 1 million volt stun gun and pepper spray. i live in oakland and about every 3 days, 365 days a year there is a murder!:eek:i am 57 with a bad heart. i don't want to have to carry a gun because with my luck i would have to shot some idiot and i don't want to spend the remaining years i have left in the joint but i will not be intimadated either. i have california legal swithblades, some 8 and 9" classic italian switcblades and som out the fronts. i carry a mix of 2 to 3 knives at a time. they give me peace of mind. i am not scared or pariniod i am just ready and want to be the one who comes out on top should something happen:cool:

Howdyrob,

I grew up in Oakland and moved out of there maybe a couple of years ago. I still have good friends there and go there often, so I know what you mean. I've had quite a few friends that have been murdered and old friends who are now either in prison or addicts running the streets, so I don't think you're being paranoid. I used to carry a gun illegally and some people may not agree with that choice, but I've had my life threatened more than some cops I've met in nicer areas.

I grew up in the 20s in East Oakland. I've lived in a lot of different areas though, where do you live?

Welcome to the forums:)

These days, a SAK Classic keyring type, then a SAK Huntsman. I used to carry a S&W tactical something-or-other, whatever was on sale at Big 5 and felt good in the hand. I've never spent any more than $15. on a S&W, and I have spares at home, so if it is confiscated, I'm only out $15.

I realized that for right now, I don't need all that cutting power, and the SAK Huntsman has handled everything for the last 18 mos.

thx - cpr

Usually, I carry a one-handed, single-blade locking folder and a traditional slipjoint (rarely use the one-hander, but it's nice when I'm at work and need to get out my knife with one hand).
Lately, though, I've been feeling a little more minimalistic, and have just been carrying a Buck 110. Sorta fills both niches.

Mini manix in rfp, gerber pliers in back with my wallet. Uses those every day for work and play, I hardly rotate my knifes.

I may add 1 depending on what I'm doing. If fishing I take my SE salt 1 as well, for hunting my new CS roach belly comes to play, chopper when camping etc..., but I'm never without the first 2 knifes.

I have 4 on my person....this is normal, it used to be 5.

1. J.W Smith large Evolution...if there is a better custom EDC, I have not seen it...but I have seen and carried "as good". The edge geometry, heat treat and design are superb. This is a "do everything" knife. IWB, right pelvic bone.

2. Benchmade Opportunist...great design, great edge, fine heat treat, very smooth, in a William Henry clip case, right trouser pocket.

3. MAL-Mark Laramie 3-blade stockman, pearl handle...great function, great value, Willam Henry clip case, right jacket pocket.

4. Microtech Cali legal otf, drop point config...because I can, it is small and handy, left jacket pocket, clipped to locker keys.

5. EDC a Victorinox black Climber when wearing jeans, but I don't for work anymore.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Yes, I'm well aware of that. That's why I never made any absolute statements, instead said "generally", "in most places", and suggested the Knive Laws forum. Always check your local laws if you're going to carry any knife.

Interestingly, with the exception of the of concealed weapon laws, which aren't applicable, the rest of my comment matches up pretty well with what you've just said, too.
