Carrying Scout knives (KAMPKING, Vic pioneer, Boker, etc..)

I've got a couple more (SAK & INOX) but for now, here is a pic of 3 others that I had taken previously. I like the pattern quite a lot. :)

The knife on the left was probably the first or second knife I ever got. I found a new in the clamshell version of it from 1994, which would be about right for one of my first knives. Of course I snatched it up! I don't carry them anymore, but they are great reminders of innocence of youth.

I find scout knives and their ilk too bulky to carry most of the time. I do carry them more during the warmer times of the year, finding the bottle opener useful for barbecues and such.

It is nice to see all these old Scout knives - great pictures. As a knife collector I have several Scout knives, but when I carry or use one it is this 1950's Imperial. OH

Gotta love almost anything from Camillus --- more knife for your money. Scout pattern just may be my favorite.

Eagle Scout in '69 - guess I'm of age by now - and lucky Boy Scout knives grow up too! Cheers :) , OH

The SAK and Scout style patterns could be the knives that got me here in the first place, though it was another Case that led me here. For years, all I carried was a SwissChamp in a belt pouch because it was so darn handy, especially at work (computer maintenance). When I saw our Troop committee chair sharpening up his old Camillus Scout at camp one year I was curious, so I went looking for them.

In addition to the SwissChamp, I've gotten a Huntsman (BSA/Wood Badge branded), Manager (BSA) and a Wenger SI. I also have traditional Scouts from Camillus, Case, Boker, Weidmansheil, Rough Rider, Colonel Coon, and Schatt & Morgan. Also have one of the Bear repro Remington's. Both my sons have BSA branded SAKs, and even my wife has a BSA Sentry and a World Scout branded Wenger Evo. We've all been in Scouting since my oldest son, now 19, started in Cubs and my wife volunteered to be a den leader and volunteered me too. Somehow I ended up as a Scoutmaster along the way and have a great group of kids, though very few actually carry some kind of Scout pattern.

I've tried to build interest in the traditional style knife, even gave Rough Riders as Christmas presents, and another to a boy who had no knife. Duane also supplied some knives including a SAK for guys in my Troop. For the most part though, my Scouts carry some time of locking folder, either a small Buck style lockback or a modern one hander. Slipjoints are viewed as old-fashioned, though an Opinel made a stir last year at our Christmas party. I'll keep trying, I have another RR for the Christmas grab bag this year.

Of all my SAKs, the only ones that go to work now are the Manager (Classic size) and Wenger SI. The others are a little too bulky for dress pants carry, and a belt pouch would raise a lot of eyebrows so they wait for weekends and camping trips.

Bet you never seen one like this...

Got this one on Ebay, never saw this before, it kinda struck me as an oddball like the German Glazers' knife, basically a Camper pattern with the can opener bein' replaced by a glasscutter.

This is probably a contract knife but who made it?

I carry them with a belt snap, or in the breast pocket of my overalls.

Great knives and a +1 on the overalls breast pocket carry!!! :)

That Boker looks really nice!!!!

That flint-and-steel is cool. Totally cool.

Below, my make and model of scout knife, though not my actual one, which got lost in a heap of fall leaves about 50 years ago.

Böker Solingen

Camillus BSA Knife (next to a Peasant)

I think I need to take a pic of all the others of that pattern... ;)

I carry a cadet 90% of the time these days. I have a pioneer and farmer too, but for the office and most of what I do, the cadet works. I have been eyeing a case scout jr for a while. I love the amber bone of my Texas Jack and provided the Jr. isn't an anchor, using it for my 90% seems appealing. I really like the feel of the TJ.

If anyone as pixs of a cadet and/or pioneer and a case scout jr side by side, I would appreciate it. I've eyed a few youtube options, but didn't really get a great idea. (not sure why)

The scout patterns are just so useful in my experience that when I have anything else, I wind up going back to to the drawer to get one of the old faithfuls though. I constantly use it to tighten a screw, battery replacement in the kids toys, and even open a beer at home, bbq, etc.

I would like to GEC get into the game with a fine option too. The nicer Bokors seem appealing, but also kind of large, and I don't often need a corkscrew at the office.

I carried a Farmer around for quite a while this past year, and still do on occasion. The extra tools, especially the awl and screwdriver, are just too handy not to have about. I own my dad's old Imperial all-steel demo knife, and an old Ka-Bar scout that I picked up at the flea market. The older models are sorta chunky and heavy in the pocket, and I couldn't get a good edge on either of them. The Ka-Bar looks like it was touched to a hot wire or terminal at some point, and I think it took some of the temper out of the edge. If I can find a nice specimen I'd carry it.
