Case/Bose Collab Questions...

Congrats on a fine choice!

Well I just got it today and it's great except for the backsprings isn't flush in all positions except the large blade in open position. Should I send it in? There's also a gap between the Integral bolster and scale.

That's unfortunate. These knives are too expensive to settle for flaws like that. The springs on mine are dead flush in all six positions, and it has no gaps anywhere, so yours isn't typical :grumpy:. Can you take a closeup pic showing the problems?

BTW, the bolsters are soldered rather than integral, but they are pretty seamless looking.

I don't know if my iPhone can pick up the pictures but when I run my fingers over them you can definitely feel it on the backspring. It's a little dissapointing because I got overnight shipping and I will have to send it back. I can probably get a picture where you can see a black area between the liner and backspring though. It's not very seamless. But it's not the end of the world.

BTW I bought it from a seller that says in their return policy that I must send it in to Case to deal with any defects.

I never handled the Norfolk, but I'm pretty sure if it's a design with 1/2 stops it should be flush in all 3 positions. I can't imagine that normal.

I agree it's a pity you paid for overnight shipping, but unfortunately I think you got a bad one.

Wow, sorry to hear that.

I suggest that you send it in, definitely.
Don't settle for a substandard product, especially when it's promoted and advertised as one of the company's finest offerings.

I've sent many knives to Case for repair and they invariably do a terrific job.
The turnaround time is about 3 to 6 weeks.

Based on my experience, I suggest that you send the knife with a civil but firm note (not handwritten),
expressing your dismay and disappointment that this expensive knife is significantly flawed.

Clearly describe all of the defects.

Also, I think you should let them know that you would have returned the knife to the dealer from whom it was purchased,
but that dealer's policy is that defective knives must be returned to W.R. Case & Sons.

Be sure to ask for a repair or a replacement.

Do not send the knife in its retail box, because you're going to get back only the knife.

The address is:

W.R. Case & Sons
Repairs Department
Owens Way
Bradford, PA 16701

Don't write "cutlery" or "knife" anywhere on the package.

Again, based on my experience, I'm sure that Case will make it right for you and that ultimately you'll be very pleased with the knife.

(Apologies if I've written anything in this post that you find to be overly obvious -
just trying to be of help, since I've gone through this process quite a few times.)

Thank you Rifon. That's exactly what I will do. BTW the dealer is actually Case Knife Outlet and I'm pretty sure they're part of the Case company.

Is that the Wharncliffe end or the Pen? Mine has similar look(and you can feel the edges)at the Wharncliffe end.

Just to fill people in that read this thread and wondered what the outcome was.

OK I just heard back from Case about the Ebony Norfolk. They didn't have another Ebony so they're sending me a Antique Bone Norfolk and a catalog knife of my choosing. I chose the Swayback Jack in CV. Man! Talk about great service. I will let you guys know when I recieve it.

You can't beat that!

It looks like this may have a happy ending! Good deal! Let us know the outcome Nate.

That ebony wood one sure looked nice, but their antique bone is sweet, too. That's what's on my C/B Dogleg Jack. Excellent CS throwing in another knife & the SBJ is very nice little knife.

Hope there are no issues on this one, but I doubt there will be. You'll probably get a hand-picked one this time.
