I prefer hollow ground. I wonder if there's a correlation between hollow vs. flat and the blade steel. Or do you think its model specific? It’s only here in answer to an earlier question

If they're like my other knives, the S35VN will have a slight advantage as far as toughness goes, while the 20CV will hold an edge a little longer. I think either would make a nice traditional knife.Wow, good point to look at the Case website. Seems kind of soon but maybe they have made their choice. It would be nice to get a comparison of performance between S35VN and 20CV, just to satisfy my curiosity.
I agree that hollow grinds would be nice, at least on the main clip point.
Now i really want one.An update.
I have been helping out in Materials Management/Central Suppy at the hospital where I work. Usually I use one of the razor blade knives to break down boxes.
Knowing that I would be spending a couple of days there this week I sharpened my CPM20CV Case Stockman to 15 degrees per side and stropped it to shaving sharp.
Today I left the razor knife in the drawer and used the aforementioned stockman for all cutting tasks. The biggest task of which was cutting up brown cardboard boxes for disposal. The three boxes in the photo are packed with cardboard cut to fit flat (no folds allowed, that's just my OCD). You can judge by the knife in the pictures the relative size of the boxes, and by the end of the day there was actually a fourth box of cut cardboard that I didn't get a pic of. All cutting done exclusively with the sheepsfoot blade. Results below pics.

So how did it do you ask?
Well the sheepsfoot isn't shaving sharp but will still cleanly cut thin magazine pages and heavier post it note type paper. Wish I was good at video to show you but alas I ain't.
To say I am impressed with this knife and steel combination would be an extreme understatement.
If you, like me, would like to see Case continue to use CPM20CV please send them a note and let them know how you feel
So It remained in the G2 household what? Almost 2 weeks? That's probably a safe bet, but, this has all the earmarks of a knife that might stay put. The size, shape and new steel add up to a very good addition to the small family of knives that remain in the G2 household.
They certainly could have used a smaller font, or some other means of identifying this special run...but, just glad they got this one started. I'm liking all three blades about equally, the two smaller ones have thinner behind the edge grinds so they slice considerably better than the main blade but the main blade also cuts well and has that slightly longer, narrower reach. Each have their own unique purpose.

Glad I could bring a ray of sunshine into your lives today! If I kept every knife I bought, I'd have one heck of a collection, but being neither rich or independently wealthy.
It just doesn't work out so, you guys and gals can take a small amount of pleasure watching me lose money as I go from one knife to the next. but I count the money lost as being a rental fee, that lessens the sting a little bit
Fortunately, it's going to a good home out west!
Stay tuned for more adventures of G2's constant search for the knife. Although right now I am liking those buffalo horned S35v bladed ones a great deal and will probably use these funds to get a small stockman with those scales and blades.

Actually there was a bite but at a much lower price than what I was asking for, and your request was also for less than I was asking for, but, a little higher than the other guy's offer. And since I am funding your collection you do have an 'edge' so to speak and so it is heading out your way today. For what it’s worth, you did put the knife up for sale about 10 days ago with no bites, so I was just doing my part to help you out with funds to buy your next one![]()
I bought one as well. A lot of blade play has developed in the wharncliffe after a few weeks of useTook advantage of a Father’s Day special snd ordered up a buffalo horn mini trapper. Still a bit pricey, but pleased with the purchase. Overall fit is pretty good. No gaps in the liners, horn well fitted. As always with production Case knives it would be nice to see the jigged pattern extend out further to the bolsters. Wharncliffe blade started out fairly centered, but has migrated slightly towards the center liner. Clip blade arrived favoring the outer liner. But neither rub. Pull is fairly light, I would say a 5, but good snap opening and closing. Wasn’t sure about the cutout nail nicks, but look much better in person and makes opening a snap. This will be a daily carry for a while. Even Pete gives his approval!

And that’s not great to hear. Was contemplating if I wanted to grab the stockman, but was hesitant do to the potential quality issues with them cramming 3 blades in.I bought one as well. A lot of blade play has developed in the wharncliffe after a few weeks of use
Gary likes the S35VN buffalo horn stockman so much that he kept it and sold me the trapper a while back. And that’s not great to hear. Was contemplating if I wanted to grab the stockman, but was hesitant do to the potential quality issues with them cramming 3 blades in.
Still liking it quite well, rides in my watch pocket every day and used about every day as well. The lazy spey blade has kinda worked itself into closing better now with use.Gary likes the S35VN buffalo horn stockman so much that he kept it and sold me the trapper a while back.
Maybe he will chime in with how well it’s holding up?
You have to consider in the case of the 20CV version you are getting a modern super steel, which by the way was cheaper than the inferior IMO s35vn version.I’m generally fine with Case quality at $50-60, but with these doubling that price point, hate that it needs to be a concern.
