I just got my first Case CV Peanut in the mail tonight and it is amazing. It blows my CV Pen Knife out of the water. I had no idea it would have such strong springs and it even has half stops. I love it. The strong snap and the half stops make it seem much nicer to me. I am a SAKaholic, and from my experience with Case knives I thought they were all weaker, but this peanut proves me wrong. I think it may never leave my pocket unless somebody gets me another one. Do all the CV Peanuts have such good snap and half stops? Does the Mini Trapper?

I also got a Sodbuster Jr. but I'm not as impressed with it. It has a little side to side blade play, and there's no chance of it replacing my Vic Farmer. It is like a Farmer without any of the tools. It is the same size and weight as far as I can tell, but the Farmer feels more solid, with no blade play at all.

Congrats on the new peanut... They do have a quality feel to them don't they ? As far as spring strength and quality there will always be some that are less than desireable, but that can be with any company, not just Case...
Yes the Case mini trappers do have the half stops, I don't know if the tiny trappers do or not, I don't own any.. Enjoy

What? Better than a pen? I just ordered a Case cv pen knife. Now I have to get the peanut! thanks!

Gotta love a Peanut. I've been carrying a CV Soddie Jr. as of late to try it out, but I am a Peanut fan. I love how small and convenient it is, and yet how totally capable. In terms of cutting, it hangs with any of the big boys. And it disappears in your pocket, which is very important. After all, the knife that is comfortable is the one most likely to find it's way into your pocket. I have the SS Bone Stag Peanut, but definitely need a Peanut. I think if I get that one I will have found "THE" knife for me.

Well, you pretty much describe my experience with my harvest orange, SS peanut. Same snap, fit/finish, etc. I really love it.

That's funny, I had the same exact thought when I recently got my first Vic Soldier: "This thing is like a soddie, but with the bonus of a few handy tools!" (I do love my Sodbuster Jr., though.)

I've had a Case Redbone Peanut in CV for half a year now. Nice snap, half stops, quickly takes an edge or a strop and keeps it for a lot of use. Nothing I don't love about my Peanut! It's my usual EDC.

Benny, funny you should mention the CASE Pen-knife. I think it's an underrated knife frankly as I really like my cv version. Don't have any cv peanuts but some stainless ones and they are favourites for sure, the Crandall cutlery peanut I edc is really flawless and it's just a 'lowly' CASE too.

What are your favourite SAKS? Hard to top the Farmer but I go for the Pioneer as well,no saw,but a good bit slimmer.

yep the peanuts are pretty nice, i was impressed with mine when i got it and it seems that most of the others i looked at were just as good. if you got the sodbuster new i'd send it back to case and tell them about your complaint of lateral blade play {i can't stand it either}and give them a chance to make it right.

What are your favourite SAKS?

That question is impossible to answer. My favorite for now is the Farmer (mine's red, which is even cooler). Actually it is my favorite knife ever. When people start threads of 'If you could only own one knife forever' I realize they have never owned a Farmer.

Good choice!
I have the CV Pen in "Yeller" as well a a CV peanut in red bone and yeller.
The pen is a nice knife but I seem to favor the peanuts. They replaced my pen as my pocket EDC (still carrying a BM Grip or mini Grip). The peanuts are not much smaller but hide in my pocket better. The clip blade on the peanut is just a tad shorter than the clip blade on the pen.
It would be cool if they made a CV pen in another handle like amber bone.

I don't know it it's just my hand shape or what, but the peanut feels so good. It has that serpintine shape that puts a drop just where the space between my ring finger and pinky is, and it fits in a tight three finger grip just so great. It's like the basic shape of the grip more than makes up for the lack of size, alowing it to really nestle into the hand while cutting.

And the blade size vs handle size on a peanut seems to be very subtley larger, with a decent size blade for such a small knife that hides in a pocket till it's needed. Not to mention thin enough stock that when sharpend up well, it glides through cardboard boxes, mail, twine, plastic blister packaging. Not a bad trout and bird knife either.

Maybe I'm nuts, but a peanut is sort of like a VW beatle. Small, well made, gets the job done, and sort of cute. (I'm talking the OLD bugs.) I remember when they started becoming popular, and we saw the first one in the late '50's. At first glance my mom loved the car and wanted one. Dad was typical guy, drove a Pontiac and scoffed at it. Mom wore him down, and by 1960 he bought mom one for her to get around in when her old Chevy was just wore out. Our nieghbors thought it too small to be a real car. When my sister Anne got her drivers licence and she learned to drive mom's bug, she fell in love with it, and later bought one of her own. By the mid 1960's, dad had drove mom's enough he grudgingly came to respect the car. By the end of the 60's, most of the neighbors had one in the driveway for the wife, kid in school, work commuter. It just got the job done in spite of the small size. I later bought one in 1966, and drove it all over the U.S.

Most people will look at a peanut and think its too small for an edc pocket knife. Too tiny to handle real cutting chores. But if you bite the bullet and just carry one for a while, you'll soon come to respect the sharp little knife as being able to do 99% of what you do with a pocket knife, and it looks cute too. And I can't think of another pocket knife that is available in so many variations. For everyday use in the shop, a yellow CV will get it done. For Sunday go to meeting, anice bone stag is good. Formal occasions like weddings and wake's a nice damascus and pearl goes well in a tux vest pocket.

Aw jeez, I'm gonna have to end the experiment so I can carry a peanut again. :D

my yellow cv case peanut has all of these amazing features! Just don't put a fake patina on it like I did because you might lie awake at night riddled with guilt like me!

Hey Carl, you said you'd partake in the experiment as long as I did, and I have concluded mine, so have it it, son. Go play with your Peanut!! LOL.
I've been carrying my Case CV Soddie Jr. lately, just because, and while I admit it is an awesome knife, it's no Peanut. I mean, it cuts exceptionally well, but there'
s just something about the Peanut's small, thin blades. The little pen knife is so..... functional. I really miss having that little blade with me. Today I carried my SAK Cadet, and realized I really missed a small knife. Not that the Soddie is big by any standards, but similar to Jackknife and his Wenger SI, the Soddie blade is a bit big for my needs. Bigger then I would like at least. I guess I just got used to small blades, and making them work, you know? I think I also am going to go back to carrying my Peanut. I love my Soddie, and SAKs, but I am very partial to my Peanut. I really need a CV Peanut..... like REALLY REALLY bad. After having a daughter, I no longer have any funds for ANYTHING related to me, so a CV Peanut, or ANY other knife of the question.
But I can dream!!

Yes, I'm going to wrap up the experiment. I'll still have my trusty SI in the nylon pouch with the LED light on my belt, but I'll have a peanut in my pocket for those day to day cutting jobs that don't require a larger blade. Face it, we're knife knuts, we are addicted to knives unlike our grandads who saw a knife as just a cutting tool to carry till it was used up or broken. Maybe I'll even spring for a damascus peanut in the near future! Or a nice pearl handle one for those more dressy occasions.

There's somethng so alluring about a pretty piece of pocket jewlery. If the women in our lives can wear multible pieces of jewlery, who's to say we can't carry more than one knife?:D

And peanuts are like potato chips, who can have just one?

You know what's interesting, though? I find the SAK Cadet to be pocket Jewelry as well? Unlike the SI, or Soldier, it is small, thin, and elegant looking. I love fondling the Cadet, twirling around my fingers, and feeling the Anodized handles. My peanut is also pocket Jewelry, but I just realized right now that that's what I did all day today, play with my Cadet.
I love small knives.

I will admit that my cadet 2 has an elegence about it that the larger Wenger SI does not. The smaller alox sak's are some very very nice edc pocket knives.

Go ahead, ElCuchillo and jackknife, give in! Me, I'm stickin' with my peanut and only my peanut! :grumpy: You guys are soft! ;)

Who you callin soft?! I eat marshmellows for breakfast and jello for lunch!:D

All kidding aside, I've found out what I wanted. In a pinch and forced to choose just one pocket knife I'd go for a scout/sak pattern. But being a knife knut and having others available, I choose to carry two or even three on occasion. Carrying the experiment futher would not accomplish anything exept depriving myself of using some other nice knives. :) Heck, I've already put the classic back on my keyring.
