Case from the 70's

Recently I decided it would be a neat idea to find a traditional folder from the year I was born to add to my rotation. I'm into smaller, unobtrusive traditionals when carrying them on a daily basis to work so I settled on a 2 dot Case XX Half Whittler (6208). I've never owned a Case from this era but heard it said that Case made exceptional knives in the 70's. That being said, I have to say that I am blown away by the f&f on this little gem... So excited by it in fact that I feel it's only right to share my newest addition with the traditional crew here at BF. Sorry if the pics are a little dark, I grabbed this one out of the mailbox this evening and wasn't able to get pics in natural light. Hope ya like it as much as I do.

Nicely jigged bone covers with light brown to red coloration and no cracks or chips. The shield is pinned, unlike Case of today, which is always a plus IMHO.

The blades have a few light rub marks, but dang if it ain't 34 years old. ;)

Great snap and solid lock up on both blades with no play in any position.

The blades are very tight, well placed, and centered. Not sure what the pins and liners are made of, but they don't appear to be brass. I didn't get a pic of the bottom but there are no gaps to be found and I would also be interested to know what the spring is made of...

All in all, I would say that this little tank of a whittler is comparable to most of the Tidioute 33's I have and will definitely make a very nice addition to my current rotation. Thanks for looking and feel free to comment, provide further info, and add pics of your Case knives from the 70's.

That's a nice knife right there. Congrats. You know, I was born in 77 too..... ;)

Nice knife, looks like it's not been effected by the years so much

I picked up a Sodbuster from the year I was born, feels kinda strange when i think about it :p

I like the fact that the bone is thicker on this than current models. A very satisfying carry there, quality.

Regards, Will

Nick: That is one heck of a sweet looking knife. Love that pattern!

Case made some great knives in the 70's and it's always fun to collect them as well as some that match up with significant dates...I think I have some from the 70's that match the year I graduated high school, college and started working for Uncle Sam. Makes them more memorable in a way.

The pins and liners on most of those knives were nickel silver. Very nice!!

I carry a Case 6207 8-dot (1972) quite often. 1972 = the year my wife was born.

That's a very fine knife on view, thanks. Good reason for carrying too!

I know a few girls from 72 who are also stunning:D:D:thumbup:

Thanks, Will

Nick,

that´s a great looking Case! The thickness of the bonecovers is hard to find these days on a Case.

But that´s just one point - the whole appearance seems so timeless-classic :)

Congratz!

very nice, I got a 3 dot 6292 (large jack) last week, and I am very impressed with it, similar bone to the original poster, amazing walk and talk, it feels so secure when opened. Swedges, pinned shield, clean brushed finish inside the handles. and because it is from the 70's I feel no guilt about putting it into use, like I would with something a lot older.

Here's a stockman from1977:

I have some stag Trappers from the 70's. I also think the Case knives from the 70's were made a little better, and also like that most of them has nickel silver pins and liners.

Great looking knife you picked up:thumbup:

edit, I'll add some pics.

All from 70's except for the one MM, and one on bottom right.
