Recently I decided it would be a neat idea to find a traditional folder from the year I was born to add to my rotation. I'm into smaller, unobtrusive traditionals when carrying them on a daily basis to work so I settled on a 2 dot Case XX Half Whittler (6208). I've never owned a Case from this era but heard it said that Case made exceptional knives in the 70's. That being said, I have to say that I am blown away by the f&f on this little gem... So excited by it in fact that I feel it's only right to share my newest addition with the traditional crew here at BF. Sorry if the pics are a little dark, I grabbed this one out of the mailbox this evening and wasn't able to get pics in natural light. Hope ya like it as much as I do.
Nicely jigged bone covers with light brown to red coloration and no cracks or chips. The shield is pinned, unlike Case of today, which is always a plus IMHO.
The blades have a few light rub marks, but dang if it ain't 34 years old.
Great snap and solid lock up on both blades with no play in any position.
The blades are very tight, well placed, and centered. Not sure what the pins and liners are made of, but they don't appear to be brass. I didn't get a pic of the bottom but there are no gaps to be found and I would also be interested to know what the spring is made of...
All in all, I would say that this little tank of a whittler is comparable to most of the Tidioute 33's I have and will definitely make a very nice addition to my current rotation. Thanks for looking and feel free to comment, provide further info, and add pics of your Case knives from the 70's.
